L’Australie, l’autre pays du Rugby, de la Foster et des Aborigènes …Les quatre membres composant le groupe ne sont pas des natifs du pays mais ils font carrément parti d’une autre planète ! Nourris au Jazz et au Prog, les gars de ALARUM ne nous facilitent pas la tache tant l’ingurgitation de cet opus ne fut pas aisée. Plusieurs écoutes d’affilée furent donc nécessaires afin de pouvoir essayer de décortiquer leur style, et cette charge fut loin d’être commode. Difficile donc de leur coller une étiquette !
Taxé au départ d’œuvre assez rebutante, à mon sens, je dois dire que leurs compositions ont progressivement réussies à apprivoiser mes conduits auditifs et à me surprendre. Regorgeant de rythmiques syncopées, de breaks, de cassures et autres changements de rythmes, le groupe au patronyme de médicament nous donne de sérieux maux de tête. Ambiances progressives de mise, certains passages Jazzy sont vraiment intéressants et bien imbriqués au reste des compositions.
Le métal de ALARUM nous transporte loin, lors de voyages spatio-temporels, sur des galaxies et des univers certes déjà explorés. ALARUM pousse le concept dans ses retranchements les plus extrêmes pour aboutir à un Metal alternant dans toutes sortes d’influences mais où la base progressive de proposer des morceaux et des passages toujours plus inédits raviront les amateurs du style. Vous comprendrez que la richesse et les arrangements de chacune des ces seize pistes m’empêchent cruellement de sélectionner un morceau pour la M-I radio. L’opus durant plus d’une heure, une concentration rigoureuse ne sera en plus pas de trop pour apprécier cet album fort réussi à sa juste valeur.
Un projet fort riche mais qui devrait en intéresser plus d’un pour un groupe qui a son propre mot à dire…
