Voila un album que j’attendais avec impatience. En effet, le maxi Forced to Bleed m’avait laissé pantois tant la technique et le feeling de ces américains sont impressionnants. Bref, Brutality is Law est pour moi une petite déception. La technique est toujours présente, le son est un peu meilleur que sur leur précédente réalisation (typique du brutal Death américain : propre et puissant, mais sans vraiment de relief ni de profondeur), alors où est le problème ?
L’inspiration voire le génie qui transparaissait dans Forced to Bleed fait quelque peu défaut. Pas de chansons du calibre de « Fuck the Humans » aussi technique que belle (le décès de l’un des guitaristes entre les deux disques est peut-être à l’origine de ce constat). Pire, certains passages ardus de guitare sont accrochés (peu je le concède, nombreux s’y casseraient les dents) et la batterie manque cruellement d’originalité : blasts blasts blasts !
Reste un album très rapide, dont la variété des riffs, la technicité et les arrangements nécessitent une bonne concentration pour les apprécier pleinement, a moins que l’auditeur ne se laisse emporter par le tumulte et ne se retrouve en fin d’album, les tympans endoloris, la nuque raide sans pouvoir siffloter le riff sur lequel il a headbangé. Il faudrait à mon avis quelques passages plus accrocheurs, quelques changements de tempo pour que la majorité puisse apprécier (comme l’excellent passage très « Cynic » de « Fuck.. » ou les arpèges du premier album). La seule véritable émotion que je retiendrai de Brutality is Law est l’écoute du très bel instrumental, hommage à leur guitariste.
Brutality is Law est plus un très bon album de guitariste et un bon album tout court, mais il risque à ce titre de lasser ceux qui ne pratiquent pas cet instrument.
