Derrière ce nom étrange se cache une nouvelle formation norvégienne de Metal progressif. Dès les premières notes du premier morceau, on nous annonce la couleur : ça va être ardu !
Car chaque morceau est fractionné en de multiples sous-parties, elles-mêmes ayant des structures différentes, entrecoupées de breaks ou de solos. ADD nous plonge dans une musique progressive dont les influences sont diverses et variées, ce qui signifie qu’elles passent par le Jazz. Elles s’y attardent même largement, ce qui constituera une barrière infranchissable pour les allergiques au style. Ainsi la ballade “Path Of Sorrow” (surtout le final oriental) n’ont plus beaucoup de rapport avec le Rock.
Pour le reste, il faut se tourner du côté des années 70, car le groupe y fait de nombreuses incartades - d’ailleurs assez adroites, comme sur “Penny Is A Slut Machine” dont les différentes structures sont particulièrement digestes et qui bénéficient d’une intro agréable. L’orgue n’est pas étranger à ce retour vers le passé. Quelques passages peuvent rappeler KING CRIMSON.
Le tout est adroitement exécuté mais on déplore un certain essoufflement, car il n’est pas rare que les morceaux ne tiennent pas la distance et auraient pu être écourtés afin de ne pas se répéter inutilement.
C’est sur “Bones & Money”, long d’un quart d’heure, que ADD montre ses limites puisque ce morceau consiste en un assemblage artificiel de différentes structures musicales (piano en solo, phrasé de guitare, chant pleurnichard, etc.) qui n’ont pas de rapport entre elles : on devine alors la tentative du groupe de complexifier gratuitement ces morceaux. Mais cela reste sans cohérence véritable.
Pour satisfaire pleinement les amateurs de Progressif, il ne suffit pas d’avoir des chansons compliquées et un nom compliqué.
