THORGEN fait partie de ces groupes dont on se demande vraiment pourquoi ils font de la musique. On doit se faire chier à Laon !
Car, même en insistant, on peine à trouver une qualité à ce groupe fadasse qui plonge, devinez où ? Dans les années 80, eh oui - comme la majorité des groupes en quête de talent. Il en ressort un album d’une platitude absolue qu’on a l’impression d’avoir déjà entendu sur bon nombre de démos ces 15 dernières années. THORGEN c’est du Heavy franchouillard, du Hard Rock de PMU, c’est mou du bide et ça transpire la médiocrité par tous les pores. En fonçant tête baissée, on n’enfonce que des portes ouvertes.
On se coltine donc des rythmiques balourdes, des solos inutiles, des chœurs grotesques (“Fatalité” est très drôle), et parfois du synthé (Ah ! L’intro de “Le Dernier Jour” !). Rien ne nous sera épargné.
Cela dit, soyons justes, il n’y a pas que du mauvais, non. Il y a aussi du très mauvais. Ainsi le chant en français trouve le moyen de plonger l’ensemble dans une autre dimension de la platitude. Tout d’abord le ton est complètement impersonnel puisque qu’on a l’impression que tous les chanteurs de troisième catégorie chantent de la même façon ; mais on pleurera surtout devant la quasi absence de mélodies intéressantes : les syllabes sont balancées sur un ton monocorde.
Pour le reste, l’interprétation n’est pas mauvaise, elle est hélas pénalisée par une production plate et peu ambitieuse. On notera d’intéressants passages au violon (“Bénie Soit-Elle”, avec quelques orchestrations agréables) de la jeune Mélodie qui ferait mieux de fuir si elle ne veut pas être atteinte du même mal !
Le seul prodige est d’avoir fait tenir autant de banalités en moins d’une heure. De ce côté, chapeau...
