Le nom de VILE n’évoque peut-être rien pour vous, le groupe n’en est pourtant pas à son coup d’essai et s’est assuré une certaine renommée dans le monde du Death Metal au cours de ses 10 ans d’existence. Il nous livre en cette rentrée 2005 sa troisième offrande, inspirée par des faits d’actualité, comme en témoignent les extraits de journaux télévisés disséminés de ci de là sur les morceaux, et qui nous propulse au cœur d’une guerre totale et apocalyptique où se joue l’avenir même de l’humanité.
L’essence du disque est résumée sur les deux premiers titres, les excellents « Devour » et « Deafening silence ». Alors que le premier malmène nos cervicales et nos conduits auditifs avec ses 2 minutes de violence sans concession, le second s’avère un morceau particulièrement varié et inventif où se succèdent riffs dévastateurs, mélodies arabisantes, refrain entraînant, soli soignés et mélodiques, chœurs…Une place importante est réservée à la guitare qui distille des riffs d’une efficacité redoutable et dotés d’un groove irrésistible, ainsi que des soli particulièrement fluides qui permettent de faire respirer l’ensemble. Le groupe semble avoir trouvé son style et se démarque de ses pairs, mais si la recette fonctionne à merveille sur les trois premiers titres, le manque de variété dans les structures et les ambiances entraînent une certaine lassitude en milieu d’album. Heureusement que les efficaces et inspirés « The burning shrines » et « Worldhunt » viennent relancer l’intérêt du disque, et notre headbang avec, avant un épilogue de guitare acoustique rafraîchissant mais dont l’intérêt intrinsèque laisse songeur. La production très puissante et très propre rend justice aux compositions, mais paraîtra peut-être un peu trop aseptisée au goût de certains amateurs de Brutal Death.
VILE signe avec The New Age Of Chaos un album mature et accrocheur, malheureusement trop inégal et trop peu varié pour marquer véritablement les esprits.
