Avec Astralism, les Suédois poursuivent dans la direction que l’on connaît : un Heavy Metal classique et dynamique, bénéficiant d’un chant influencé par Ronnie James Dio. On a donc souvent l’impression de se replonger dans les années 80.
Les compositions sont simples mais assez réussies, elles séduiront les fans de DIO. On y trouve beaucoup de grosses guitares balançant une bonne dose de riffs. On passe du Speed vitaminé au mid tempo lourd et l’on constate que le groupe conserve son équilibre dans chaque genre : rien de bien nouveau mais une efficacité évidente à l’image de “From Satan With Love” ou de “Raiders Of The Ark” qui apparaissait déjà sur le EP. Mais cette fois les compositions s’éloignent de WHITESNAKE pour emprunter franchement la voie de DIO (et/ou de BLACK SABBATH).
Hélas, comme on l’avait déjà remarqué, le clavier est incessant, et il devient franchement saoulant à la longue, d’autant que sur certains morceaux son intervention est franchement discutable. Il aurait gagné à être plus discret, quitte à ce qu’il ait plus de latitude sur de petits passages isolés, comme sur le break de “Israel” par exemple.
Comme on pouvait s’y attendre, Astralism ne marque pas une avancée dans l’histoire du Metal, mais il contient les qualités suffisantes pour passer un bon moment.
