Le nom du groupe aura au moins le mérite d’annoncer la couleur : les Allemands ont tout pompé ! Cet album ne se contente pas de manquer d’originalité, il est surtout constitué d’un assemblage d’emprunts à d’autres groupes. Et il faut franchement manquer de culture musicale pour ne pas remarquer l’odieuse mascarade. La contrefaçon est digne des meilleurs ateliers Chinois.
A début, on se dit que PUMP n’est pas un groupe très original mais que sa musique demeure agréable, puis on se lasse vite de cette accumulation de clichés. Car on ne tarde pas à déplorer une totale absence de valeur ajoutée. Cette tambouille de cantine réchauffée au micro-onde est un peu lourde pour l’estomac.
PUMP s’efforce de varier les registres, passant du Hard Rock au Heavy et alternant les rythmes avec aisance. Breakdown To Beakthrough apparaît comme une sorte de condensé du Heavy Rock des années 80. On croit écouter un album de reprises ! Cela pourrait même faire un jeu amusant : essayer de dénombrer tous les groupes qui ont été pompés ! Le paroxysme du ridicule étant, à mon avis, atteint avec “I Can’t Deny”, complètement copiée sur WHITESNAKE. Tout y est, même les soupirs langoureux.
Breakdown To Breakthrough n’est pas un mauvais album puisqu’il reproduit des recettes qui font mouche. Mais son écoute est franchement gâchée par ce manque d’originalité qui rend l’ensemble bien peu intéressant... à moins de n’avoir jamais écouté de Hard Rock !
