Régularité est le terme qui conviendrait le mieux au blond guitariste Teuton. Métronomique dirais-je même car tous les ans, bon gré mal gré, le digne successeur de Richie Blackmore nous livre un nouvel album.
Mystica est donc le cru 2006. Accompagné depuis quelques albums par un line up stable ou l’on trouve des pointures tels Mike Terrana le batteur de RAGE ou Ferdy Doernberg le claviériste chanteur de ROUGH SILK ainsi que le talentueux chanteur Américain Johny Gioeli. Notre ami Axel nous réalise là un bien bel album.
L’artwork déjà. Une superbe jaquette, guère originale il est vrai mais dessinée avec talent. Le graphiste a du y passer quelques heures et c’est ma foi, un argument de vente non négligeable en ces temps de piratages effrénés.
Venons à présent au principal, à la musique. Le son global est excellent. La guitare, instrument roi s’il en est, domine avec brio les débats. Axel Rudy Pell tire de sa fender des rythmiques particulièrement Heavy et appuyées. Quand l’artiste part en solo, il n’occulte jamais le coté mélodique de la chose et n’assomme pas l’auditeur de milliers de notes par secondes, bref un jeu subtil et gorgé de feeling.
Les morceaux sont manifestement taillés pour la scène. Ici point d’overdubs, d’orchestrations hasardeuses, d’ambiances multiples. Non la concision est de mise et une fois n’est pas coutume, les claviers sont judicieusement utilisés et viennent soutenir en fond sonore, la guitare. Heureusement ils restent, et ce n’est point péjoratif, un instrument d’accompagnement et s’y cantonnent.
S’il fallait ne retenir qu’une chanson de Mystica, ce serait à mon sens « Valley Of Sin » : Prenez une intro mélancolique particulièrement émouvante, rajoutez-y des riffs d’enfer, un refrain entêtant, un solo de guitares aux superbes influences bluesy et vos obtiendrez une pièce de choix, digne de figurer sur toutes les plays Lists des Webmasters ou autres animateurs de radios Metal.
Maintenant et ça serait le seul bémol à ce concert de louanges : qui peut, en septembre 2006, s’intéresser à ce genre de réalisations car dieu sait que le Hard rock d’obédience « classique » n’est plus vraiment en odeur de sainteté ?
Qui ? Les amateurs de bonne musique, tout simplement.
Le groupe est venu donner un concert courant septembre à Paris et à en croire les réactions glanées sur le net, a largement séduit le nombre restreint de spectateurs présents ce soir là. Quand nous écoutons cet album, nous ne sommes pas surpris, tant il s’avère brillant et inspiré.
Continuez Mr Pell, continuez ! Vous ne figurez peut-être jamais en tête des hits parades mais au moins, vous brillerez sur un tableau : Celui de l’authenticité. Chapeau bas !
