Janvier 2002, j’assiste au concert de DORO l’égérie du Metal d’outre Rhin au Club Dunois à Paris. En ouverture nous eûmes droit à la prestation remarquée d’un groupe bien de chez nous, originaire du nord, SYRENS CALL. Leur prestation fut bien accueillie par la population « génération veste à patches et moules burnes » présente en masse ce soir là.
Septembre 2006, après un changement de chanteuse, les musiciens effectuent un come back avec un mini album intitulé Against Wind And Tide.
Alors tenons-nous notre NIGHTWISH hexagonal ou notre LANA LANE bien de chez nous ?
Pour le savoir, suivez moi mes amis dans une chronique détaillée morceaux par morceaux (ben oui, il n’y en a que 5) :
- « Run And Fall ». Superbe entrée en matière avec un morceau tirant assez nettement sur le Hard FM en grande partie à cause de claviers très présents. Le chant de Soraya très mélodique est bien contrecarré par des chœurs masculins plus musclés. La partie narrative coupe, néanmoins, le rythme en fin de chanson. Très bon solo et accélération globale du tempo à la fin.
- « Your Soul Is Mine ». Une ballade. Aille, déjà ? Je ne suis point trop client, euphémisme, de ce genre de réalisations mais tachons de faire preuve d’objectivité et en l’occurrence, c’est très bien fait : Arpéges délicats, synthé subtil, superbe solo à la lead de Thibaut Coisne avant un passage plus rapide ou les claviers sonneront très 70’s.
- « Cold Embers ». Ça commence très doucement, puis l’intensité monte petit à petit et SYRENS CALL manifestement inspiré par le duo SHAAMAN/ANGRA, nous livre une pièce Heavy prog’ de très haute volée.
- « Aquatic Coma ». Non un instrumental n’est pas forcément chiant. La preuve ! En plus c’est très Heavy avec de nombreux passages à la double grosse caisse.
- « Enjoy The Silence ». Retour des vocaux pour une chanson plus basique, moins alambiquée que les autres mais au moins aussi prenante qualitativement parlant. Une bonne manière pour conclure cet album, ma foi bien sympathique qui mériterait une adhésion unanime des Hard rockers de France et de Navarre.
Un bémol, un petit ? Allez rien de bien dramatique. Sorraya la nouvelle chanteuse maitrise très bien son sujet mais on aurait aimé un coté un poil plus sale, moins lisse quoi. Mais nonobstant ce petit point de détails, savourons sans modérations ce Against Wind And Tide.
