Mauvaise nouvelle : John Wetton et Geoffrey Downes ont survécu à la canicule !
Profitant d’une panne de télé à l’hospice, les deux vieux ont fait un concert et – qu’ils sont coquins, ces deux là – ils l’ont enregistré pour le vendre ! Cette bonne blague.
Il y a un adage qui dit « c’est dans les vieux pots qu’on fait la meilleure soupe ». Eh ben, ça tombe bien, parce que de la soupe, s’en est ! Il est impossible de dénombrer les ballades car on s’endort immanquablement avant la fin de l’album. Quoi qu’il en soit, l’ensemble est absolument navrant et l’on se demande ce qui peut sauver une telle entreprise du zéro absolu. Chaque titre est effarent de banalité (ça on l’avait déjà constaté en studio) mais ici le son live ne fait aucun cadeau, impossible de relever le niveau avec d’adroits arrangements. On a mal pour eux. Le pire étant ce son de synthé/orgue totalement ridicule qui intervient pourtant à outrance sur plusieurs titres. On n’avait pas entendu ça depuis Charlie Oleg !
Un sommet est atteint avec « Only Time Will Tell », affligeante tant en rythmique qu’en mélodie. Un exploit ! Il faut taper dans la variété française pour trouver plus navrant.
Pour couronner le tout, la production (assurée par les deux grabataires) est lamentable. Le mixage est épouvantable (l’intro de « Let Me Go », sérieusement…).
En attendant leur nouvel album studio : un concept-album sur la dartrose, à ce qu’il paraît…
