Brutal Death, Extrem Jazz, Hardcore, Thrash, etc… la palette d’influences musicales de KORUM est pratiquement infinie, ce qui est sûr c’est que c’est toujours très technique et il faut écouter leur musique pour comprendre!
Souvenez vous KORUM, ces parisiens qui avaient frappé très (très) fort avec leur premier album Son of The Breed en 2002 et bien ils reviennent avec un troisième album intitulé : Ockham’s Razor car il y avait eu le sortie de Non Dominion entre temps (2003).
La première chose frappante est que le groupe a modifié son image. Il a abandonné son logo pour en choisir un plus simple et épuré… il en est de même pour la pochette qui cette fois est moins travaillée et déjantée que sur les deux premiers skeuds… dommage car je pense que ça casse l’identité du groupe qui était tout de suite reconnaissable.
Il ne s’agit pas là des seuls changements, car musicalement, il y a eu également beaucoup de bouleversements. L’album est moins explosif que ses précédents, la folie qui caractérisait Son of The Breed n’est plus là. Est-ce les changements de line-up qui ont affecté la musique ? En tout cas, même si le groupe n’a pas pris un virage à 90 degrés, tous ces changements sont un peu déroutants. KORUM a abandonné les clichés Death, la voix par moments Hardcore pour des vocaux signé Kriss (également à la basse) beaucoup plus criards et étranges.
Les compos sont toujours aussi complexes et techniques, les riffs sont uniques en leur genre à cause de structures toujours plus alambiquées ! Je ne sais pas trop quoi penser de cet album, car même s’il possède de très bon titres comme « Fear Is The Enemy » et « Revenge Is On My Side », il manque à Ockham’s Razor la folie et par moments la brutalité que l’on trouvait précédemment. L’influence majeure de ce skeud se situe dans la discographie de NEUROSIS ou KILLING JOKE. On trouve même sur cette galette une reprise assez surprenante de « Another Life » de ROLLINS BAND. Quoiqu’il en soit, il ne faut pas chercher KORUM dans les groupes prévisibles !
