Jeune groupe formé en 2005, INTERRIA dégage déjà un certain potentiel. Ils ont sorti leur premier mini-cd éponyme au milieu de l’année dernière, et force est de constater que leur musique n’est pas facile à définir. Ce qui en soit est un bon point. Si vous souhaitez vous faire une idée plus précise, on pourrait évoquer un lointain cousin d’EVANESCENCE, un SENSER deuxième époque, ou un THEATRE OF TRAGEDY plus agressif. Les vocaux sont assurés par une jeune demoiselle, Jenni Signorino, qui met juste ce qu’il faut de conviction pour impressionner agréablement, sans toutefois susciter l’émoi. Le reste du groupe assure la grosse rythmique derrière, et Julie aère l’ensemble avec ses claviers éthérés.
Si le style n’est pas aisément identifiable, ça n’est pas pour autant qu’on vibre de plaisir à l’écoute de cette démo. Les morceaux se ressemblent beaucoup, et la voix est relativement monocorde. De plus, j’ai eu beau tendre l’oreille, je n’ai absolument rien compris aux textes, qui cela dit après lecture attentive, ne m’ont pas vraiment emballé non plus. Les titres mixent le français et l’anglais, et cette tactique linguistique résume assez bien le groupe. Le cul entre deux chaises, mi agressif, mi planant, mais rarement convaincant. On dirait presque parfois une version féminisée de certains titres de LINKIN’ PARK, version Meteora, ce qui n’est guère un compliment. C’est bien dommage, car on sent en arrière plan que le groupe a les moyens de proposer autre chose qu’une sorte de néo Metal hybride faiblard, comme le prouve le dernier titre, l’accrocheur « Abrasif », qui fait penser à un bon inédit de CROSSBREED. Ce titre a d’ailleurs été choisi par Hard-Rock Magazine pour figurer sur leur sampler du mois de novembre, CQFD.
En un mot comme en cents, je dirais qu’INTERRIA devrait se donner les armes pour digérer ses influences, faire mûrir un peu son style, et exploiter plus à fond les possibilités vocales de sa chanteuse, qui semble facilement capable de transcender ses intonations pour moduler ses émotions d’une manière plus profonde. Autrement dit, s’inspirer de genres totalement extérieurs pour enrichir sa palette vocale. Quand aux compositeurs, on exigera par la suite un peu plus d’audace créative pour se sortir de ce carcan illusoire qu’est l’efficacité à tout prix. Scribitur ad narrandum, non ad probandum. Amen.
