Encore un album qui va scinder les auditeurs en deux. SINNER fait du Heavy dans la plus pure tradition des 80’s, sans y apporter un poil de nouveauté. Certains crieront à l’insipidité la plus totale, d’autres au génie qui fait revivre cette magnifique période qu’étaient les années 80 (souvenez-vous, MADONNA, CINDI LAUPER ou encore INDOCHINE !). Difficile donc de garder un œil objectif sur cette galette. Le combo d’origine Allemande est mené par Mat Sinner, grosse tête du Heavy Metal en Allemagne, officiant également au sein des reconnus PRIMAL FEAR.
L’entrée en matière est des plus efficace avec le titre « The Other Side ». Le groupe délivre là une première compo énergique qui va droit au but. Tous les ingrédients Heavy sont réunis : solos de guitares, chant mélodique et batterie simplement efficace. Et il en sera de même sur l’ensemble de l’opus, à quelques ballades près. Il n’y a véritablement rien de transcendant dans ce Mask Of Sanity. Certains diront « terriblement ennuyeux », et d’autres penseront « vachement sympa ». Côté production, il faut avouer que l’album est plutôt bien fourni. Celle-ci est opérée par Mat Sinner lui-même et elle n’a rien à envier aux grosses productions actuelles. Par ailleurs, le groupe se permet une charmante reprise de l’immense groupe de Hard THIN LIZZY. Même si elle est opérée de manière très scolaire et presque sans émotions, on apprécie le geste. Du coup, on termine l’opus avec le sourire aux lèvres et on n’est pas trop méchant dans la chronique… Well done !
