PSYLENCE est un groupe formé depuis 2003 qui débarque fraichement d’Angleterre. Through Distorted Eyes est leur premier effort. On ne fera pas de remarque sur l’immonde artwork qui orne l’album (mince, trop tard !), et on va plutôt se concentrer sur ce que cet album a dans le ventre. Même si la première écoute n’est pas décisive, elle est résolument importante, et force est de constater qu’après les 10 titres qui composent l’album, on a légèrement l’impression d’avoir écouté la même chanson 10 fois de suite. Mais ne soyons pas trop mauvaise langue. On appui sur « Play » à nouveau, puis encore une fois, et ainsi de suite… Mais non. Aucun titre ne se détache de la masse. Et c’est bien dommage car à la base le contenu est plutôt intéressant. En effet le combo Anglais évolue dans un genre Metal Moderne, énergique et mélodique, qui offre une bonne dose de puissance. Certes il n’y a rien de révolutionnaire là dedans, mais avec une petite touche de folie et de surprise, la pilule serait beaucoup mieux passée. Non seulement les mêmes ingrédients sont resservis sur chaque titres, mais en plus de ça les compositions semblent n’avoir que pour seul intérêt « envoyer du gros son ». Ainsi les amateurs de subtilités et de recherche musicale seront âprement déçus, même s’il est évident que ce n’est pas un caractère intrinsèque au consommateur de chez Virgin, il leur reste donc encore un espoir de vendre des disques. Modérons le propos tout de même, tout n’est pas négatif non plus, on peut saluer la qualité indéniable de la production ainsi que l’agréable présence de solos de guitares. Ceux-ci sont bien amenés et ne viennent pas encombrer des compositions déjà pataudes. Merci les guitaristes…
