Lumière sur… MORS PRINCIPUM EST, la mort n’est que le commencement pour les latinistes. Outre ces considérations d’un optimisme enjoué, MPE est un groupe Finlandais né en 1999 du côté de Pori. Suite à deux premiers opus Inhumanity et The Unborn qui laissèrent un bon et agréable souvenir auprès des auditeurs de Death Mélodique, le sextet nordique continue son bonhomme de chemin et par le biais de du label français Listenable Records, sa maison de disque depuis leurs débuts, le combo Finlandais revient en force avec dans son escarcelle son troisième méfait fatalement intitulé Liberation=Termination. Les groupes de Death Mélodique ont ainsi le vent en poupe ces dernières années au vu des sorties submergeant le marché. Sachant se démarquer de leurs influences directement inspirées des DARK TRANQUILLITY, IN FLAMES et SOILWORK, le groupe a au fil des années peaufiné son style et accru sa personnalité musicale. Ainsi, MPE a su redonner un second souffle au genre grâce à ses compositions complexes et à ses ambiances originales. Déjà leur second album comprenait l’apparition de voix féminines qui apportaient un gros plus par rapport à son prédécesseur.
L’opus démarre tambour battant avec le titre « The Oppressed Will Rise », condensé de Thrash Death aux riffs endiablés et divinement percutants. Mélodique, puissant, raffiné, les arrangements répandus sur ce morceau montre l’étendue du talent et de la technicité des musiciens.
Il en sera de même avec l’un des tout meilleurs morceaux de l’opus, « It Is Done », c’est fait, comme si on l’attendait de puis plus d’une demi-heure. Simplet et rentre-dedans. Du Metal énergique. Même constat pour le titre « Terminal Liberation ». L’efficace et envoûtante « The Animal Within » et ses éléments électro rendent ce titre particulièrement ensorcelant. Les ambiances omniprésentes et les orchestrations accouplées à des riffs véloces font de ce titre un des morceaux phares de l’album. MPE n’en oublie pas pour autant ses racines ancrées dans le fer le plus résistant et des titres comme « Finality » et la tonitruante « Sinners Defeat » vous convaincront du bien fondée de cette pensée. Du pur Death Mélodique avec en plus des soli particulièrement soignés et léchés. Dans un second temps, des titres comme « Cleansing Rain » ou l’instrumental « Forgotten » accentuent plus sur l’aspect mélancolique et triste du combo venue de ses terres désolées. Un Death Mélodique dans le strict sens du terme. Au niveau du concept, soit ils ont poussé à son paroxysme la lecture de 1984 de Georges Orwell ou la vision nihiliste de Terminator 3 leur a fait comprendre que quoi qu’il fasse, l’homme se fera quand même enterré par les automates.
Production ultra propre, pas de poussière pour entacher cette galette aux contours bien dessinés. Un bon disque de Death Mélodique. N’étant pas spécialement ma tasse de thé, Death et Mélodie étant pour moi deux mots à la collusion plus que douteuse, et bien c’est déjà pas mal !
