Comme dirait Maxime Leforestier, « on ne choisit pas ses parents, on ne choisit pas sa famille... » apparemment, on ne choisit pas non plus ni son label, ni son pays d'origine. Prenons SANCTITY par exemple, jeune groupe de Thrash nord-américain; avec un producteur tel que Roadrunner et un parrain tel que Matt Heafy de TRIVIUM, on peut s'attendre à une mise en orbite en guise de lancement pour leur premier album. Mais ne soyons pas mauvaise langue, cette renommée future, le groupe la devra amplement à son talent.
Ici, le Metal délivré est un Thrash très classique, remis au goût du jour par quelques touches de Heavy Metal et de Heavy Rock. Le résultat est solide, plein d'énergie, parfaitement maitrisé sur le plan instrumental mais un poil « trop poli pour être honnête ». La réalisation (léchée), les morceaux (homogènes et irréprochables du début à la fin) nuisent en quelque sorte, à la créativité de l'ensemble. Malgré cela, et c'est bluffant pour un premier album, le groupe semble parfaitement maîtriser la discipline; le guitariste Zeff Childress offre un jeu particulièrement technique et brillant. Quant à Jared McEachern (chant) sa voix n'a tout simplement rien à envier à celle de Matt Heafy. Les morceaux, pour leur part, sont puissants, directs, accrocheurs et redoutablement mélodiques. Certains d'entre eux courent même le risque de devenir des incontournables, on pense à « Zeppo » ou « Laws of Reason » pour ne citer qu'eux.
Au final, on est face à un album de Thrash très classique, mais néanmoins moderne et extrêmement accrocheur. En fait, il s'agit probablement d'un des meilleurs premiers albums de ces dernières années et il faut s'attendre, dans les années à venir, à réentendre parler de SANCTITY. En tout cas, les fans de TRIVIUM y trouveront leur compte, les autres également.
