FIINKY PIE avait déboulé dans le paysage Rock hexagonal en affichant fièrement sa bonne humeur et sa joie de vivre. Hélas, il fallait bien l’admettre, les compositions avaient du mal à être à la hauteur des ambitions. Le groupe a donc décidé de se dégager en douceur de cet aspect festif pas toujours très convaincant, et il nous offre un album davantage orienté Hard Rock.
Dès le début, les français ont annoncé haut et fort que leurs influences remontaient aux 80’s (Ah, des connaisseurs !), c’est donc sans aucun complexe qu’ils puisent dans le riche répertoire de MOTLEY CRUE, DOKKEN ou KISS, par exemple, pour bâtir leur propre univers musical et faire revivre l’heure de gloire du Hard Rock.
Rust est une excellente surprise à plusieurs niveaux : tout d’abord les approximations des précédents opus (surtout du premier) ont disparues et l’album est solide comme un roc. Par ailleurs, le groupe s’est débarrassé des artifices dont il s’était entiché pour se concentrer sur l’essentiel : faire du bon Metal, tout simplement, sans paillette, ni fringues fluo.
La production, autrefois approximative, revêt désormais sa tenue de soirée.
Mais la véritable avancée se situe au niveau des compositions : on n’a jamais vraiment pu lapider FIINKY PIE par le passé, mais il était quand même difficile de combler d’éloge une écriture qui balançait souvent entre manque d’intérêt et manque d’originalité. Et bien, tout ça c’est fini ! Oh, certes, Rust n’est pas à proprement parler un monument d’originalité, on l’a dit, le but avoué du groupe est de se plonger dans le passé. Mais cette galette comporte quelques morceaux vraiment intéressants qui font immédiatement taper du pied. Et, l’album entier s’avale d’une traite comme une rasade de Bourbon, en laissant le même goût râpeux : Rust est un concentré de Hard Rock’n Roll nerveux, cru et efficace.
Pour finir ajoutons que le chant de Raymz fait souvent penser à Gene Simmons ce qui ne manquera pas de réjouir les fans de KISS qui figure parmi les groupes de prédilection du groupe (le titre « Rock’n Roll Hell » est peut-être un clin d’œil, en tous cas ce n’est pas une reprise).
