Si l'on devait choisir un maître-mot pour Ghost Opera, celui-ci serait probablement "émotion". En effet, malgré une utilisation plus poussée des orchestrations et des chœurs, ce nouvel opus paraît plus intimiste. Kahn, cela est sensible, prend plaisir à évoluer dans ce registre, à travers un chant tout en retenue, qui finira probablement d'agacer tous ceux qui lui trouveraient des attitudes de poseur. Mais ces détracteurs ne peuvent nier les qualités vocales du bonhomme. L'émotion chez KAMELOT rime aussi avec majesté, d'où le côté, à première vue paradoxal, d'une richesse des arrangements mise au service d'une musique basée sur ce que l'on qualifierait plus volontiers de ressenti individuel que d'émotion collective. La mise en avant des instruments et des mélodies symphoniques se fait parfois au détriment des guitares et de la batterie qui donnent alors l'impression de n'assurer que les rythmiques. Ghost Opera n'en reste pas moins un album de KAMELOT et les titres typiques sont encore bien là : « Mourning Star », « Silence Of Darkness », « EdenEcho »... Plus fréquemment que sur The Black Halo, une voix féminine du plus bel effet vient donner la répartie à Khan (« Love You To Death », « Mourning Star »). Ghost Opera offre plus d'un niveau d'écoute car, au-delà des orchestrations qui nécessitent une approche plus approfondie, il reste ces mélodies qui se font rapidement entêtantes. Et pour revenir aux instruments classiques, lorsque je vous disais qu'ils tenaient une place de choix sur cet album : l'intro de « Up Through The Ashes » avec ses cuivres aurait très bien pu figurer dans la discographie de DIMMU BORGIR.
« Blücher » et « Anthem » sont probablement les deux titres les plus marquants à l'issue de l'écoute de ces onze compos, le premier parce qu'il propose l'alliance la plus équilibrée entre arrangement symphoniques et parties plus typiquement Power Prog ; le second, pour une toute autre raison, puisqu'il s'agit d'une magnifique ballade, sans guitare ni batterie, aux mélodies touchantes et magiques, qui n'auraient sans doute pas dénoté au générique du Monde de Narnia. Ghost Opera, ce n'est pas de la camelote, mais du KAMELOT : c'est donc plutôt la grande classe.
