Depuis 2004, ERLEN MEYER distille son Metal de manière religieuse afin de faire entendre ses paroles sombres et sa musique torturée. Même si le groupe n’officie pas dans le style préféré des têtes blondes d’aujourd’hui, à savoir un Metal pâlichon complété par une panoplie toute fraîche sortie d’un livre de mode goth, il n’en est pas moins percutant et destructeur. Des paroles sans concession, une musique qui arrache ce qui passe à sa portée pour prendre le temps de le déchiqueter. C’est ça, le double effet ERLEN MEYER.
Ce qui surprend de prime abord, c’est le son. Des guitares assez étouffées, une basse lourde même si pas vraiment mise en avant, et une batterie qui claque. Et quand je dis qui claque, c’est que la caisse claire a un son qui explose le tympan. Cela fait bizarre au début, puis on se dit que c’est un son qui convient bien au groupe. Certes, un plus gros son avec le même genre de rapport entre les instruments leur irait tout aussi bien, mais il y a dans le son le même côté écorché que dans la musique et les paroles, et cela va finalement très bien ensemble.
Justement, les paroles, c’est un des gros atouts du groupe. Sordides, comme la réalité. Blessantes, comme les évènements qui nous croisent. Et Olivier, derrière son micro, est là pour faire en sorte que ces paroles prennent une dimension supérieure – puissante et agressive. Sa voix, mélange entre un cri et une voix qui vomit ses tripes, fait claquer les mots et les crache au visage du monde. « Pas de place pour les assistés », « Si l’homme est amour alors je serai haine » ou « Le quotidien et son sens glissent sur moi », sont autant de phrases chocs qui ressortent des six chansons de cette démo. Et si ERLEN MEYER a autant de bonnes compositions dans sa hotte que celles qui composent cette galette, l’album qui verra peut-être le jour sera une tuerie.
En tout cas, le groupe m’a percuté. Et il faut un temps pour s’en remettre.
