NIGHT RANGER, c’est une vieille histoire. Tout a commencé dans les années 80 où le groupe a connu un immense succès et vendu des tonnes d’album même s’il n’est jamais parvenu à s’imposer parmi les groupes de légende. Après le split, chaque musicien a multiplié les projets et aujourd’hui le cv de chacun est long comme ma… jambe.
Après neuf années de silence, NIGHT RANGER revient au grand complet et nous livre un album d’excellente facture. Ce qui frappe tout d’abord c’est l’incroyable variété des compositions : on passe du Hard Rock nerveux, au Rock mélodique, sans oublier ballades, incursions dans la Pop, etc. Bref, on voit du pays. Tout n’est pas toujours très réussi, mais il est difficile de jeter un titre aux orties. Car, même si certains ne sont pas ma tasse de thé (notamment « There Is Life » que je trouve trop gentillette) il y a toujours un solo ou une trouvaille quelconque pour leur trouver de l’intérêt.
Hole In The Sun n’est pas un album inoubliable, il ne permettra pas à NIGHT RANGER d’acquérir la notoriété qu’il mérite sans doute, mais il fournira aux amateurs de Hard mélodique l’occasion de passer un bon moment. C’est déjà pas mal.
