Véritable professionnel dans la communication et le marketing pour mettre en avant ces poulains, le label teuton Massacre Records ne recule devant aucun moyen pour placer ses groupes sous contrat sur le devant de la scène. Et ce n’est sûrement pas les Helléno Allemands de MYSTIC PROPHECY, quintet énergique de Dark Heavy Power Metal qui échappera à cette règle de bienséance. Reconnus au-delà du Rhin comme un groupe sérieux et jouissant d’une excellente réputation fondée sur la renommée de ces trois premiers albums studio, MYSTIC PROPHECY délivre avec Satanic Curses son cinquième enregistrement. Malédiction Satanique ?
Faisant suite à Savage Souls qui fut acclamé par la critique, les allemands guidés par leur chanteur grec R.D. Liapakis à la voix d’or enfonce le clou avec ce déluge de Heavy Power Metal de haute voltige ! Même en ayant perdu deux de ces anciens membres partis vaqués à d’autres occupations, le groupe a su relever la tête et mettre un terme aux rumeurs donnant le groupe pour mort. Sortir un bon album de Metal, voilà la meilleure des réponses à donner.
Pas d’expérimentations, de claviers, de superflu, MYSTIC PROPHECY va droit au but et ne s’embarrasse pas de fioritures. Les teutons professent un Heavy Power surpuissant où l’organe vocal de R.D. Liapakis accompli des merveilles et enjolive les mélodies finement ciselées par la paire Markus Pohl et Martin Grimm (guitares). La rythmique basse / batterie n’est pas en reste et accompagne le tout de manière simple, carrée et sûre de son fait. Pas de place pour l’hésitation et pas de temps à perdre. MYSTIC PROPHECY mène ses compositions tambour battant et ne s’embarrasse d’aucune inutilité. Des morceaux rentre dedans et mélodiquement bien en place comme l’excellente «Satanic Curses» à la rythmique pachydermique et la massive «Dark Forces» attestent du pouvoir de persuasion du quintet. MYSTIC PROPHECY est possédé ! Du blast, de la double pédale, du riff tantôt Thrash, tantôt Speed, des rythmiques flirtant parfois avec le Death, les hommes de Berlin nous font la totale. Album complet et efficace, les mid tempi ont aussi leur mot à dire avec «Sacrifice Me» et la diabolique Demon’s Blood» et son refrain identifiable et percutant. Produit par le gourou du son suédois Fredrik Nordstrom (IN FLAMES, HAMMERFALL, ARCH ENEMY), l’ensemble dépote sévère et le combo nous matraque de ses rythmiques de fer sans le moindre répit. On ne s’ennuie pas une seconde au cours des écoutes de l’album, la bande à Liapakis sait maintenir le niveau d’écoute en alerte. Avec douze titres, on a de quoi se mettre sous la dent.
Pour finir, la reprise Heavy Dark de «Paranoid», tube interplanétaire de BLACK SABBATH… intemporel même si l’original reste l’original fait que MYSTIC PROPHECY rend hommage à une des grandes figures du Heavy Metal. Mélange de genres, MYSTIC PROPHECY a su trouver sa voie dans le saturé Heavy Power Metal et s’y faire une place. Une réputation méritée. Le groupe avance un Heavy Power réjouissant qui n’apportant rien de nouveau au genre a au moins le mérite de confirmer les lettres de noblesse qui reviennent à ce style souvent moqué. Un très bon album de Heavy Power à recommander à tous les amateurs du style.
