« Surf in USA… ». Eh non, SPYDER BABY n’est pas la réincarnation fumeuse des BEACH BOYS, mais par contre il est maître dans l’art de surfer sur la vague pour en tirer profit. Quoi que, est-il vraiment maître ? Non, plutôt il sait bien le faire croire. Parce que Let Us Prey ressemble à un mauvais cassoulet tout juste réchauffé dont le milieu serait encore froid et gluant. Imaginez un peu ça, surtout quand vous crevez la dalle et que vous n’avez que ça à vous mettre sous la dent. Bref, SPYDER BABY c’est un peu l’art (lard ?) de faire un nouvel album pour contenter les fans de chanteur à fard à paupières ou ceux qui veulent voir apparaître des ersatz de MANSON dans tous les coins (de chiottes). En un mot comme en cent, je n’irai pas par quatre chemin… il y a déjà eu mieux qui est entré dans mes oreilles chastes et pures.
Les compositions sont basiques, très Rock’N’Roll dans l’esprit des riffs (« Lips Of Red » sauve peut-être la mise en passant directement par la case Metal sans toucher les 20000) et ce ne sont pas les samples qui sauvent la mise, malheureusement. Ces derniers auraient pu servir à relever le goût de cet album un peu fade, malheureusement ils servent surtout à mettre des grésillements partout et à rendre inaudible une musique qui n’est déjà pas très acceptable. D’ailleurs, la somme forme un tout brouillon qu’on discerne difficilement. Comme si la musique avait été diffusé dans le cœur juteux d’une cucurbitacée et qu’elle aurait dû en plus traverser la crouter pour se faire entendre. La saturation mal choisie et la voix trafiquée n’arrangent rien. Et ce n’est pas « The Worms », seul morceau qui sorte un peu du lot avec son ambiance pesante et malsaine, qui suffit à faire passer cette pilule.
Mais je ne m’inquiète pas outre mesure. SPYDER BABY saura trouver son public parmi ceux qui écoutent déjà des groupes comme WEDNESDAY 13. Je n’ai rien contre eux, seulement… ce n’est vraiment pas pour moi.
