Vous connaissez le pudding bien sur ? Mais si, vous savez ce gâteau à l’aspect plus ou moins douteux, fabriqué à partir des restes d’autres desserts, histoire de pas gâcher comme dirait Guy !
Selon la dextérité du préparateur, le résultat peut s’avérer désastreux, ou au contraire, proche du délice absolu.
Et parfois, on ne sait pas trop. Ni bon, ni mauvais, un peu écœurant mais pas trop, parce que trop d’ingrédients différents ont été utilisés.
C’est un peu le cas ici, avec AND HARMONY DIES. Les influences sont multiples, trop sans doute, et ça se sent. On ne sait si c’est un problème de révérence trop poussé, ou un désir d’attirer le chaland à tout prix. Toujours est il que si parfois, les influences se font discrètes, il est des titres ou le jeu de piste à des allures de Loto gagné d’avance.
Prenez par exemple la piste 4, « Firts Flames », c’est du DIMMU plus vrai que nature, sans bien sur la science des arrangements de Shagrath et sa bande. « Practice », c’est Peter Steele & Co, sans l’habilité naturelle du New-Yorkais à recréer l’ambiance glauque des égouts de la Grosse Pomme.
Mais au petit jeu du qui m’a filé l’idée pour ce titre, les sources sont décidemment multiples. On retrouve pêle-mêle au milieu de ce fatras un peu de NOTRE DAME, Mr BUNGLE, DEATH SS, et un certain flair pour reproduire le Krautrock allemand des années 70.
Le tout est bien sur enveloppé dans un Black-Metal théâtral, avec claviers omniprésents, et voix multiples, censés je pense incarner des personnages.
On croit parfois rêver, tant le pont de « Flames Everywhere » fait penser à un interlude de « La Croisière S’amuse » !
On ne sait si ce cirque permanent tient plus d’une créativité sans bornes, ou bien du pilote d’une série improbable ou tous les cadors du Metal décalé viendraient faire un caméo !
Quoiqu’il en soit, on se laisse prendre au jeu, et si, lors de l’écoute des premiers morceaux, on s’apprête à sortir la chevrotine pour tirer à vue, on finit par céder au charme étrange de cette réalisation, qui prend l’auditeur à rebrousse poil pour mieux l’envoûter au final.
Point d’orgue de cet album hors normes, la cover finale de « At War With Satan » de VENOM, titre qui avait fait hurler de rire les critiques lors de sa sortie, mais qui, comme AND HARMONY DIES, sait louvoyer dans les méandres du mauvais goût pour en retenir la quintessence. Et in extenso s’il vous plait !
Et si finalement, c’était ça Flames Everywhere ? L’album que VENOM n’a jamais su enregistrer ? Un monument à la gloire du n’importe quoi ?
