Il est de plus en plus courant aujourd’hui dans le Metal de voir des groupes apparaître dont la volonté est de faire tomber les barrières entre les styles. Certains vont même plus loin en voulant faire tomber les murs entre tous les styles musicaux et produire une musique riche en influences diverses. AKPHAEZYA fait partie de ces groupes qui ne se donnent aucune limite que celle de leur propre sensibilité. Cela donne donc une musique multiple, polymorphe, limite schizophrène, qui plaira à certains, en rebuteront d’autres. Après avoir proposé en 2004 une première version démo de Anthology II, le groupe revient en 2008 avec une nouvelle version plus professionnelle, et une signature chez Ascendance Records. A croire que ce label a le bon goût de trouver des talents certains (rappelons qu’ils ont eu la bonne idée de signer PIN-UP WENT DOWN). AKPHAEZYA s’est donné les moyens de concrétiser son histoire, prévue en cinq volumes, dont le numéro 2 est le premier ! Cherchez pas, les choses deviendront limpides au fur et à mesure des sorties.
Qu’en est-il de cette mixture musicale ? Il faut bien être conscient que, même si l’album possède des éléments Metal, puisant même parfois du côté de l’extrême, son socle est éclectique et il faut savoir apprécier les mélanges pour entrer dans leur monde. La preuve en est de « Preface » qui est un morceau sur un rythme Jungle sans incursion dans le Metal. « Chrysalis » démontre que le groupe possède une technique musicale précise et élaborée puisqu’il entre en plein dans la sphère Progressive. Mais on sent de fortes influences Jazz derrière tout cela. « Beyond The Sky » surprend puisqu’il s’agit d’un morceau acoustique où Nehl Aëlin nous fait voir sa voix sous un jour très émouvant. Je l’ai beaucoup apprécié pour son jeu de guitare. On peut aussi parler de « The Bottle Of Lie », qui commence par de la Salsa, propose un petit break Java et termine par du Reggea, tout en mettant des passages Metal au milieu de tout cela. Le morceau le plus brutal est « The Golden Vortex Of Kaltaz » qui, après son introduction au piano, plonge dans un bon gros Death.
Il est vraiment très difficile de parler d’un disque aussi riche et aussi éclectique. Le mieux est quand même d’écouter et de se faire sa propre opinion. En tous cas, j’ai été sensible à la musique du groupe, à la voix de Nehl, à la technicité des musiciens qui ne tombent jamais dans une optique démonstrative mais sont aussi à l’aise dans le Metal que dans les autres styles qu’ils abordent. Bref, ce disque m’a parlé. Cependant, je me doute qu’il ne parlera pas forcément à tout le monde du fait de ses atouts, qui peuvent aussi devenir des freins. En tous cas, je ne peux que les encourager à continuer et à nous produire de nouveaux albums tout aussi riches et inspirés.
