DEEP IN HATE est un groupe de Death Metal parisien qui vient avec Only The Strong Survive proposer son premier album. Nous parlerons d’un album assez court, puisqu’il ne contient que sept véritables morceaux, plus une introduction, et dure trente deux minutes. Mais cela suffit à se faire une opinion sur le groupe, ses qualités, ses défauts et sa plage.
DEEP IN HATE avait déjà été remarqué par leur première démo parue en 2004, No Remorse. Cependant, d’un Deathcore, le groupe est passé à quelque chose de plus traditionnel. Un bon gros Death Metal avec des tendances Brutal. Les influences Hardcore n’ont pas pour autant totalement disparues puisque des mosh parts apparaissent dans les morceaux, mais elles s’intègrent parfaitement au Death des parisiens sans donner l’impression d’une chimère fabriquée.
On navigue donc pendant une demi heure dans une Death Metal bien foutu où les grosses rythmiques aux accords plaqués succèdent à des déferlantes de notes. Ceci donne un effet peut-être moins pesant aux morceaux, même si les enchaînements de notes sont parfois assez dissonants pour donner un côté plus malsain, à l’image de l’introduction, dérangeante. On a parfois le droit à de petits passages expérimentaux, comme sur « Status: IDLE » où tous les instruments, voix comprise, impriment le même rythme au morceau, alternant silence et rythmique. Même s’il faut encore un peu travailler la synchronisation sur cette partie, elle donne un autre visage au groupe. Parlons aussi un peu de la voix de David. Elle est à mi-chemin entre Charal et Herta. Personnellement, je trouve que le côté porcin est trop mis en avant ; je préfère les voix plus gutturales pour le Death, mais ce n’est qu’une question de goût. Les changements donnent quelque chose de pas trop linéaire, ce qui est appréciable.
Au niveau du son, c’est propre, carré, avec peut-être un peu trop de retrait pour la batterie. D’ailleurs, est-ce une mode en ce moment de faire des expérimentations sur le son des caisses claires ? On n’est pas au niveau de celui de DIERESIS sur Loose Limbs, mais c’est quand même un son étrange, presque électronique. Pourtant le jeu est bon, mais le son ne suit pas. Dommage.
DEEP IN HATE a certainement un bel avenir si le groupe continue dans ce sens. En tous cas, il faudra le surveiller.
