ARCHITECTS est un groupe originaire d’Angleterre. Quand on les voit sur les photos, on voit une bande de djeunz la mèche plaquée sur le front qui résiste au vent, limite le khôl dégoulinant. Quand on écoute leur musique, on a du mal à croire que ce sont les mêmes personnes qui font ça. Déjà, la musique de ARCHITECTS est technique et on pense naturellement à une troupe plus âgée. Pas grabataire, mais avec un peu de bouteille en plus. Comme quoi, les jeunes, ce ne sont pas que des petits cons ignorants, tudju ! Et puis, leur musique, bien qu’avec une bonne base Hardcore, ne se tourne pas vraiment vers le Screamo ou l’Emo. Mais bon, l’habit ne faisant pas le moine (nan, ce sont les sandales), on peut s’attendre à tout.
Donc Ruin, c’est quoi ? C’est un album ambitieux puisque la musique est torturée à souhait. On prend des riffs, on les torture autant qu’on peut, on voit ce qu’on arrive à préserver du massacre et on essaye de les mettre bout à bout pour faire des morceaux. Je vous vois venir. Mathcore, pensez-vous. On pourrait le dire assez rapidement, mais ARCHITECTS navigue aux limites du Mathcore sans jamais vraiment en franchir la frontière. Il manque encore un soupçon pour que la barricade soit derrière eux. Parce que même si les structures des riffs sont complexes, les morceaux restent quand même abordables. C’est pas non plus du Lara FABIAN, mais on n’est pas non plus dans du TEXTURES. La longueur des dits morceaux aide aussi. Rares sont les morceaux qui dépassent les quatre minutes. On va à l’essentiel, et c’est une bonne chose. Parmi les riffs éclatés, on remarquera quand même les passages en tapping mélodique (« Buried At Sea »), la bienfaisante pause émotive et calme (« Sail This Ship Alone »), les montées et descentes impressionnantes de manches (« Always ») ou encore les déferlantes de double grosse caisse dignes de GOJIRA (« Heartless »).
ARCHITECTS a donc presque tout pour plaire. Lui manque une voix qui naviguerait ailleurs que dans un registre uniquement hurlé ou, quand ce n’est pas cas, emprunte une voix claire pas très convaincante.
