Ce que l'on peut dire, c'est que les italiens de EPHEL DUATH ont de la hargne à revendre. Avec un line-up quelque peu bizarre, et à première vue incompatible, composé d'un batteur de 47 ans de formation Jazz-Blues et prof de polyrythmique et percussions, d'un bassiste de Prog-Fusion, d'un chanteur qui se veut dans l'ombre de Jeff Buckley et d'un frontman Hardcore-Noise apocalyptique, le tout réuni autour du gourou Davide Tiso (guitariste et compositeur), ce groupe éclectique et les neuf couleurs de leur palette sont impossibles à classer dans une catégorie. En effet, si leur musique n'est pas définie par des paramètres standard, EPHEL DUATH est prêt à créer une nouvelle branche musicale. Car bien des groupes de Metal ont joué par le passé avec des paysages Jazz ou Fusion, mais aucun n'a poussé les limites jusqu'à ce stade. Davide Tiso, faisant figure de proue, a su assembler un étonnant compromis de musiciens d'horizons divers dans le but d'explorer des territoires encore inconnus du Metal grâce à un capiteux mélange de Jazz-Fusion, Hardcore et Prog-Metal.
Le concept de l'album intitulé "The Painter's Palette" est directement lié à la connexion entre sons et couleurs, d'où une conception du disque et de sa pochette en noir et blanc dans l'intention de proposer des couleurs à travers les sons dégagés. Chaque titre est dépeint par une ombre où l'auditeur a devant lui une infinité de possibilités de sons et par conséquent de couleurs.
"The Painter's Palette" est un authentique tremblement de terre venant d'un groupe qui a repoussé les frontières du possible. Comme quoi, le Metal is not dead et tout reste encore à découvrir. EPHEL DUATH est destiné à être reconnu comme un nouveau genre, voire comme une référence dans les années à venir. A suivre…
