J’avais lu tout et son contraire sur le premier album de THE AMENTA, Occasus. Quand les avis sont aussi partagés et aussi tranchés, il ne reste qu’une seule solution : se faire sa propre idée. Du coup, je me suis penché que la nouvelle production de ces messieurs : n0n.
Immédiatement, il vient à l’esprit deux choses. La première c’est que le groupe semble avoir abusé des mêmes substances prohibées que THE BERZERKER. Les mêmes coups de baguette supersoniques nous déchirent les tympans et on a du mal à calmer notre cœur qui veut suivre la mesure. Par contre, même si la grosse caisse veut battre des records, il est dommage de limiter son usage de la batterie à ses grosses caisses et à la caisse claire. De plus, avec un son qui fait penser que le tout a été fait par ordinateur, on se retrouve face à une partition dont toute humanité a disparue. La deuxième chose, c’est que les samples, c’est bien, mais quand on n’entend plus rien parce qu’ils sont bourrés de grésillements en tout genre, c’est moins bien. D’accord, cela donne un côté mécanique, rébarbatif et froid qui est certainement voulu, mais à trop vouloir en faire, on se retrouve avec quelque chose d’assez indigeste. Surtout qu’on n’entend pas forcément super bien les guitares derrière. Et c’est sans compter sur le chant trafiqué qui se plaque dessus.
Bon, et à part ça ? Sur la première moitié de l’album, on a donc des titres qui vont à toute vitesse sans se préoccuper de ce qu’ils détruisent sur leur passage. Puis, avec « Whore », une notion nouvelle est introduite dans la musique : prendre un peu plus son temps pour poser une ambiance. Et, à partir de « Skin », les choses se calment carrément. Jusqu’à « Rape » où le groupe se rappelle qu’il a des torgnoles à distribuer. Personnellement, je ne peux cacher que je trouve que la plus value du groupe se trouve plus dans les parties d’ambiance. Le reste est un ersatz d’autre chose, sans âme propre. Par contre, il faut reconnaître qu’ils savent utiliser les samples à bon escient quand ils n’essayent pas de tout atomiser. D’ailleurs « Skin » et sa voix féminine fait vraiment plonger dans un univers déshumanisé et futuriste que les amateurs apprécieront.
Avis très partagé donc pour ce groupe, même si je pense qu’il a de bonnes capacités dans certains domaines, pas forcément là où on les attend, d’ailleurs.
