Marrant de voir comment un groupe peut changer du tout au tout au fur et à mesure des années. Je me souviens encore du premier rejetons de la bête Labyrinths of Horror sortit en 1995 quasiment dans l’anonymat. Ce dernier possédait un son purement atypique et tentait visiblement d’être le disque le plus rapide de cette année. Mais en ce temps là la concurrence était rude, et c’est pléthore d’albums dont nous disposions. Je me suis tout de même porté acquéreur de l’engin car je lui trouvais un certain charme. Et que reste-t-il de cette période 13 années plus tard ?
Pas compliqué, Rien !
Le style a lentement évolué vers quelque chose de plus en plus pesant, les divers musiciens composant le trio originel s’en sont allés vers d’autres cieux et je ne suis absolument pas certain qu’ils se reconnaîtraient dans la direction prise désormais par le quintet.
Ce qui est surprenant c’est que l’imagerie développée n’a pourtant pas tant variée que cela. Elle a évidemment évolué mais sans perdre ce côté volontairement nauséabond de la dictature militaire.
Le plus grand changement à constater entre l’épreuve précédente et cette dernière, est que notre ami Martin SIGTYR THIM a enfin accepté de ne plus être le seul maître à bord. Parce qu’en voilà bien un qui connaît la définition des termes autocratie musicale. Et c’est avec Andreas SCHUBERT qu’il partage la composition. Tout en sachant que cela n’était plus arrivé depuis 2002, sur un seul et unique titre. De là à penser que les deux styles présents sur cette dernière offrande sont dus à cet état de fait.
Bien entendu, et comme il se doit, la nouvelle maison de disque du combo annonce à grands renforts de publicité qu’il s’agit là de l’album Death Metal de l’année. Et bien qu’ils se rassurent tout de suite au sein de l’écurie Mighty Music, ce n’est pas encore le cas. Il est vrai que ce disque sort légèrement des sentiers battus et du carcan définit par le style lui-même. Mais ce côté répétitif devient assez rapidement rasant pour ne pas dire autre chose. Il est tout à l’honneur des musiciens de tenter de tracer son propre chemin, mais cela doit-il réellement se faire au dépend de la musique ?
Oui je sais, je suis dur, mais encore une fois c’est que je n’adhère pas aux chemins emprunter par le combo.
Je ne laisse pas souvent tomber un groupe en cours de route, mais les errements stylistiques m’égarent, surtout quand ils sont présents sur un seul et même enregistrement. Même leur site habituel renvoie sur leur page myspace ou aucun passé n’est présent.
Ce disque n’en est pas pour autant médiocre, mais il aurait pu (aurait du) être traité différemment.
Dommage !
