A la simple évocation du label sur lequel est signé HELLMOUTH, mon cœur accroche sa ceinture, mon aorte se fige, mes vaisseaux se dilatent. Dans environ 99% des cas, on va se farcir un truc dont le suffixe est « -core ». Et si ça ne termine pas en « -core », l’adjectif « brutal » n’est pas loin. Les amerlocks ne jouent pas les rebouteux sur ce coup là, puisqu’ils nous proposent, bien évidement, un bon vieux Thrashcore des familles, mais... Totalement inconnus au bataillon (et pour cause, HELLMOUTH est un beau bébé d’un an à peine), le quintette à déjà trouvé les bonnes adresses pour promouvoir sa musique. Faire un jet depuis la maison Ferret suffit généralement à vous ranger dans un style bien précis. C’est là que nos amis posent leur veto car pour eux, point trop n’en faut. Du Metalcore, mais pas trop.
Alors pour se défaire d’une image salissante qui pourrait leur coller aux semelles plus vite que prévu, le groupe à décidé de lier sa sauce avec une grosse louche de riffs mélodiques et d’expérimentations psychotiques. Mais avant cela, saluons ce très bel effort effectué sur l’artwork. Franchement, on demande rarement la lune, juste d’être un tant soit peu culotté. Bon point ! Entrons maintenant dans leur univers. L’accueil est glacial. Blasts à fond, guitares trashy’s, nous voilà confrontés à un drôle de mélange entre THE AGONY SCENE, HIMSA, WARBRINGER ou SWORN ENEMY. Mais ce qu’on apprécie en premier, c’est le caractère musical de leurs idées. HELLMOUTH regorge de bonnes intentions et d’envie. S’il ne fait aucun doute que les musiciens consomment des substances très peu licites, ces ingestions rendent ce Destroy Everything, Worship Nothing complètement déluré, follement divertissant. Pas un instant de répit, le tempo va à deux-cent à l’heure. Et là où la horde fait preuve d’intelligence, c’est en rompant cette cadence infernale avec des introductions changeantes (solo de batterie sur « Pawnshop St. Christopher », solo de basse sur « Oblivion & Utopia »). L’album conclut sa première facette « pas trop mal » avec « Blackest Of Voids ». Viens maintenant la facette « carrément bien ». Inexplicablement, à partir de « Dust », l’enregistrement prend une toute autre tournure. Autant la première partie relevait plus d’un bon gros fou rire entre amis, pas bien méchant, autant la seconde devient soudainement sérieuse et ma foi, efficace. Les cordes se durcissent, Malek (batterie) revoit son rendement à la hausse et Navarro (Roger Hanin is watching you !) adopte une puissance sidérante dans sa voix. Les compositions se font graves, agressives et variées pour atteindre l’excellence sur « The Masters Have Posoined The Slaves ». Sortir quelque chose de ce calibre, quand on est aussi novice relève du talent pur. Leitmotiv psychédélique, arrangements polaires et chant d’un damné viennent conclure de la plus belle des manières qui soit Destroy Everything, Worship Nothing.
Je n’avais pas de grandes illusions à l’écoute de cette énième sortie de Ferret Music, mais les p’tits gars m’ont complètement scotché sur place. Aucunes revendications, aucune arrogance, juste le plaisir de proposer quelque chose d’inspiré. Il n’en faut pas plus pour m’envoyer au septième ciel.
