CROWPATH ne rime pas avec bordel mais c’est tout comme : heureusement, ou pas, l’auditeur n’a que deux oreilles et qu’un cerveau. Ce qui le contraint à structurer une musique qui part un peu dans tous les sens. Mais cette structuration ne se fait pas sans peine et prend le pas sur la détente que l’on serait en droit d’attendre de tout interlude musical. Difficile en effet d’écouter ce troisième assaut du combo, One With Filth, d’une traite et d’en sortir indemne, notamment en raison de ces décrochages fréquents entre la base rythmique et les leads. Il faut dire que les Suédois ne cherchent pas à nous épargner non plus : le titre introductif « One With Filth » est un brûlot bruitiste qui nous casse les jambes. Va-t-on pouvoir s’en relever ? Le morceau qui suit, « Where Dolls Do Sin », plus lourd, pourrait nous le laisser espérer, mais un moment d’inattention suffit pour que, sur « Fondling The Grotesque », le combo nous coupe les jarrets. Les guitares, soutenues par la production, lacèrent mais ne tranchent pas nettement et infectent nos plaies auditives. A travers ce lot d’agressions sonores, nous percevons parfois des instants de lumière qui sonnent comme la fin d’un mauvais rêve (l’instrumental « I Gryningen » et ses accents à la GRIP INC., « Cleansed In Chlorine »), mais le salut n’est définitivement pas pour aujourd’hui. L’album est-il varié ? Je ne me risquerais pas à une telle affirmation : compliqué de percevoir les subtilités avec les tympans qui saignent. One With Filth, une expérience certes, mais éprouvante. Même le final « Retarded Angel » est aussi agréable qu’une craie qui dérape sur un tableau noir. Et dire qu’à Guatanamo, les Américains faisaient écouter AC/DC, RATM et METALLICA aux détenus pour les faire craquer: il faut croire qu’ils ne connaissaient pas CROWPATH…
