Voyons, voyons, qu'avons-nous là ? Un CD promo KATAKLYSM. La surprise est de taille. Le premier morceau "In Shadows & Dust" effectue un retour aux racines de leur précédent album "The Mystical Gate of Reincarnation", tandis que "Beyond Salvation" représente un véritable bond en avant avec ses rythmiques taillées à la hache, des voix hurlées et profondes dont seul notre cher Maurizio connaît le secret. Hé ! Ça me fait même penser au morceau de Pestilence "Parricide" sur Malleus Maleficarum. "Illuminati" sonne comme une chanson italienne, mais ce n'est pas de l'italien, n'est-ce pas ? Je sais que Inheritance/Celtic Blood avait fait quelque chose de semblable, mais là je donne ma langue au chat. Maurizio est Italien, même s'il vit au Québec depuis très longtemps, et il parle donc couramment la langue ! Ce morceau est littéralement une muraille de riffs entraînants qui vont vous déchirer les oreilles. "Face the Face of War" est plus lent et imposant. Sa structure me rappelle celle d'un hymne. "Years of Enlightment" porte le coup de grâce avec son solo de guitare très âpre et très inhabituel, le tout sur un ton majestueux.
Pour conclure, je dirais que c'est tout bonnement la meilleure production de KATAKLYSM à ce jour !
