Plutôt que de travailler à La Poste comme leurs compatriotes, les réunionnais de Nazca ont choisi d’œuvrer dans le Metal. Tant mieux puisqu’il font du meilleur boulot que mon facteur.
Il est difficile de trouver des défauts à cet album tant le travail réalisé est impressionnant, surtout pour un premier album. Commençons par les vocaux (en anglais), vraiment convainquants, ils donnent immédiatement une dimension internationale au groupe et lui offre un registre très large. Les autres musiciens ne sont pas en reste, et il ne s’agit manifestement pas de débutants. On notera l’apport tout particulier des guitares, ne se contentant pas de plaquer des accords, elles nous offrent toujours un petit plus, un phrasé par-ci, des licks par-là, sans en faire trop. Cette aisance permet de sortir des titres intéressants, mélodieux mais jamais faciles, classiques mais pas copiés.
Avec ce “White Wheel”, NAZCA nous offre une très bonne surprise de près d’une heure.
La seule question que l’on est en droit de se poser est : comment vont-ils évoluer ? Car cet album explore différentes directions. Il est tantôt Heavy Rock avec “The Great Masquerade”, tantôt FM : “Angel In Me”, ou encore progressif “Child Of Guyana”, pour finir avec un instrumental dans le style de Satriani (je vous avais bien dit que les guitares étaient de qualité). Bref, on a le sentiment qu’ils ont un peu perdu le fil (un comble pour des gens originaires d’une bourgade nommé “Le Tampon”) ! Et on peut se demander pour quelle orientation finale ils vont pencher. Quelle que soit la réponse, il y a peu de chance que nous soyons déçus… du talent, il y en a !
