Pour ses 25 ans d’existence, TORMENT nous a concocté un nouvel album de Thrash comme ils aiment les faire. Tormentizer est donc comme vous vous y attendez un album de Thrash typiquement dans la veine allemande que TORMENT nous offre allégrement depuis plus de deux décennies sans pour autant connaitre un succès international.
Qu’importe, les allemands s’en contre-foutent et nous balancent ici 12 titres, rapides, acérés et aux refrains facilement mémorisables. Bref du Thrash, ni plus ni moins. On ressent ici, comme à chaque fois, les influences de MOTÖRHEAD, mais on a aussi le droit à quelques morceaux dans une veine plus Punk. Ca envoie, c’est certain ! Cependant je trouve que cet album n’a rien d’exceptionnel. A part « I Hate The System » et son refrain que je me suis surpris à fredonner, « Stalker » et son intro entrainante ou encore quelques morceaux sympas comme « Nothing To Repent », les titres sont plutôt répétitifs, tous construits sur le même schéma, et même les solos de guitares (c’est censé être un des points essentiel du Thrash, non?) ne sont même pas assez subtils pour relever la barre assez haut. La production sonne un peu trop underground et donne une impression de travail bâclé, mais ca n’arrêtera pas les purs fans.
Après tout, moi je n’aime pas mais je pense que les fans de TORMENT ou même aficionados de Thrash en général aimeront, parce que les titres dépotent et nous donnent inévitablement envie de se boire quelques bières, et je pense que c’est un peu l’esprit du Thrash Metal. En tout cas, chapeau bas à nos voisins allemands qui, malgré un quart de siècle d’existence, restent toujours fidèles à eux même et à leur style.
