Les passagers en partance pour Liverpool, ville d’origine du combo britannique, sont priés de bien vouloir attacher leur ceinture et d’ouvrir grand leurs écoutilles, le voyage commence maintenant.
En effet, après avoir survolé divers genre (Doom, Gothic …), c’est vers de nouveaux horizons que l’équipage nous embarque.
Le décollage se fait tout en douceur sur « Thin Air » qui monte en intensité grâce à la puissance de sa rythmique de plus en plus soutenue, jusqu’à nous pousser vers la zone de turbulences que dégage « Summer Night Horizon ». Retour au calme avec « Dreaming light » dont les vertus apaisantes et le chant angélique nous feraient presque tomber amoureux des pilotes Danny et Vinnie Cavanagh (chant et guitare) sans qui ce vol serait impossible. « Angel walk among us » et ses voix susurrées font la part belle à la ballade pendant cinq minutes d’un panel coloré. Quand aux plaintes de « Get Off Get Out » elles nous donneraient sincèrement envie de donner un bon coup de pied dans le siège du passager avant comme pour dire que ANATHEMA c’est ça aussi, ils ne font pas que dans la dentelle. N’ayez pas peur du crash avec « Universal », titre qui vous fera traverser diverses sensations mélancolique pour s’achever sur un feu d’artifices instrumental. L’agréable périple prend fin sur « Hindsight », et la voix de notre jolie hôtesse de l’air, Lee Douglas (chant) nous conseille d’ouvrir les yeux doucement et de déguster cet agréable atterrissage dont la composition clôture bien ce joli chef d’œuvre.
La perfection n’existe pas mais en écoutant le dernier opus des frères Cavanagh, on flirte franchement avec. La progression est telle qu’au fil des pistes on s’aperçoit que les mélodies ne s’adressent pas uniquement au public avertit du Metal. La collaboration avec Steven Wilson (PORCUPINE TREE), facilement identifiable sur certains morceaux, y est peut-être pour quelque chose, en tous cas là, on a bien à faire à du Metal progressif voir atmosphérique.
La plénitude qui s’en dégage vous fera planer pendant une heure sans jamais décoller vos fesses du fauteuil.
