DANKO JONES, joli trio composé évidemment de Danko Jones (chant/guitare), John Calabrese (basse) et Dan Cornelius (batterie). DJ nous vient du Canada et pourtant leur musicalité semble tout droit sortie d’un road-movie californien.
B-Sides ne sera que l’itinéraire de cette épopée canadienne depuis leur rencontre à Toronto en 1996. Il nous permet en effet de s’abreuver de ce bon Rock festif pratiqué depuis leurs débuts avec une énergie contagieuse.
Sur des bombes comme « My Times Is Now », « My Problems », « Sugar High » ou encore « First Date », chacun d’entre nous se laisserait surprendre par un p’tit coup de Air Guitar ou bien encore de grimper sur la table dominicale de mémé pour se lâcher un bon coup dans une danse endiablée et en faisant tourner les serviettes s’il vous plaît afin de la boucler une bonne fois pour toute à notre Patrick Sébastien national.
Tout est calculé pour n’être concentré que sur le côté pêchu de la musique, jusqu’à leur look tout de noir vêtu. Ici aucune surabondance, une guitare, une voix, une basse et des percussions à se briser la nuque. Et la voix de Danko, qu’en dire de plus si ce n’est qu’elle colle à ses nombreuses contorsions faciales volontairement exagérées sur les nombreuses vidéos qui circulent sur le Net. Il inspire naturellement le sourire à l’image de sa fraîcheur, mais surtout son charisme.
L’efficacité est nettement appréciable sur chaque composition. Les rythmiques assez souvent décousues laissent leur heure de gloire à chaque protagoniste.
Cette compilation nous laissera le loisir d’apprécier des morceaux plus « bluesy » comme « I Like To Ball » ou encore « Starlicker », assez bref néanmoins.
Tous les amateurs des bons vieux Rock vont se régaler sur des empreintes telles que « Woogie Boogie », « Ice Cold Angel » et « Sex » dont les tempos berceraient des unions de bassins lors d’un twist.
Avec pas moins de vingt-sept titres B-Sides déversera son flot de Rock simple et efficace et il y en aura pour tous les goûts. Les Canadiens ont trouvé la recette pour accrocher un public large et se cantonnent dans cette même cadence. Il manque peut-être un petit quelque chose qui ferait la différence car on peut s’ennuyer au fil des pistes tant on reste quasiment tout le temps sur les mêmes accords.
