THROWDOWN (usa) - Deathless (2009)

Formé en 2006, les américains de THROWDOWN reviennent avec leur sixiéme album, Deathless. Un jour officiant dans un registre Hardcore, puis l’autre dans un Groove / Thrash Metal, cette fois, on les retrouve dans un registre purement Metalcore.
Ce disque est donc la dernière offrande de la bande californienne THROWDOWN qui évolue tout de suite dans un style aux rythmiques lourdes et efficaces, soutenu par un son de batterie et une production vraiment propre. Mais les passages mélodiques se mordent très vite la queue et se perdent un peu en route, tout comme les voix claires qui sont très présentes sur cet opus à l’inverse du précédent album du groupe (Venom And Tears sorti en 2007 chez Trustkill Records) qui lui, ne faisait pas dans la fioriture et nous renvoyait directement a l’époque des rythmiques de bulldozer d’un Vulgair Display Of Power de PANTERA. Pour en revenir à Deathless, cette dernière galette devrait satisfaire les amateurs du genre Deathcore mélodique mais laissera sur leur faim ceux espérant quelque chose dans la lignée de l’opus paru il y a deux ans. Pourtant, quand il s’agit d’envoyer sévère, le groupe y arrive sans se faire prier, comme dans la chanson « Black Vatican » où, dès le début, on sent qu’il y a un très gros potentiel à se casser la nuque niveau headbanging, avec un son de guitare gros et incisif et les vocaux agressifs de Dave Peters. Mais très vite ceux-ci sont remplacés par cette voix claire omniprésente qui vient casser d’un coup la dynamique du morceau à 1min30 et qui, du coup, perd de la puissance.
Que dire de plus a part que c’est un album très moyen donc, et même un peu passe-partout parmi la quantité de groupe évoluant dans ce style. C’est peut-être dû au changement de style musical, pas encore maîtrisé à 100%. Car en effet, savoir maitriser les voix claires dans le Metal est plus difficile qu’il n’y parait. N’est pas Rob Flynn (MACHINE HEAD) qui veut.
