Quand on a la forte impression d’avoir dégoté une pépite d’or au beau milieu d’un énorme tas de sable on se dit que le temps et la persévérance ont eu raison de tous ces instants où l’on craint de ne plus jamais dénicher pareil chef-d’œuvre et nous pousse sans cesse à y croire, encore …
Monolith est de ceux qui marquent les esprits par son bon sens, celui de ne pas vouloir en faire de trop et d’y arriver pourtant, mine de rien, pour le plus grand plaisir des gourmands et gourmets d’un Death Progressif de haute volée.
IN MOURNING avait souvenez-vous fait forte impression déjà deux ans plus tôt avec son Shrouded Divine instaurant timidement à lui seul une entité à surveiller de près. On ne s’était pas trompé, les Suédois en avaient dans le coffre et présageaient de belles surprises, mais à ce point je pense que personne n’en aurait pas mis sa main au feu puisqu’il est coutumier pour le pays de nous servir un catalogue plus que vaste et alléchant.
N’étant pas adepte des jeux d’argent, je ne me risquerai pas à parier sur leur durée de vie car d’une ce n’est pas avec deux albums au compteur qu’on lit l’avenir et de deux ce n’est pas de ça dont il s’agit ici. Vous conviendrez par contre qu’une fois l’album écouté, vous aurez quelques difficultés à ne pas envisager leur avenir sous les plus beaux auspices.
Certes je passerais brièvement sur la qualité indéniable des trois premières pistes et je mettrais plutôt en évidence « The Smoke ». Le titre qui laisse entrevoir une facette plutôt floue de leur musicalité révèle en fait un résumé concis de ce qu’est Monolith, une évidente ambigüité entre le Death et le Dark Mélodique. Là où les messieurs s’acharnent dans la précision d’exécution avec beaucoup d’émotion la technicité domine malgré tout. La fumée s’estompe alors (oui c’est assez obsessionnel chez moi en ces temps de sevrage tabagique) et dévoile alors toute la beauté et la propreté d’un morceau à l’équilibre harmonieux.
Le charme ayant opéré sans peine la suite se déguste avec aisance également et les « With You Came Silence », « Pale Eye Revelation », etc … qui suivront ne seront que les magnifiques prémices d’un bouquet final à la hauteur de l’ensemble du spectacle.
« The Final Solution (Entering The Black Lodge) » et ses presque treize minutes vont vous laisser sur le carreau. Une mélodie sublime enveloppée d’une violence déchirante réprimée pour n’en laisser transpirer que le meilleur.
Atteindre ce niveau au bout seulement de deux albums est bien la preuve qu’ils ne sont pas là par hasard. Mais toutefois attention car on vous attend au tournant, la déception ne sera pas permise, nos espoirs sont fondés aujourd’hui.
