Astrofaes est un groupe ukrainien underground de true Black Metal né en 1996 composé de deux membre permanents (les membres d'origine): Thurios (guitares et chants) et Khorus (basse) Entre 1996 et 2003, ils ont sorti 2 démo et 6 albums. Le concept du groupe est basé sur la nature, le temps, leurs ancêtres (les Slaves), leurs racines, ils sont très tournés vers le passé. Ils sont liés à d'autres groupes slaves tels que Lucifugum, Dub Buk, Nokturnal Mortum ou encore Runes Of Dianceht. Voila pour l’historique, passons à cette nouvelle offrande qu’est "The Eyes Of The Beast".
Pour commencer, cet album a été enregistré en deux langues: anglais et russe. Astrofaes ne se cantonne pas à Oaken Shield mais aussi Oriana Prod. et Pussy God Records,... On ne sait pas grand chose d'eux car le Black Metal est une chose encore très underground dans les pays de l'Est, Lucifugum par exemple est une grande victime de la censure (dans le même pays). Beaucoup de leurs albums ne sont sortis qu'en format cassette.
"The Eyes Of The Beast" présente une évolution par comparaison à l'album précédent. En effet, il y a moins beaucoup moins de passages mélodiques qu'avant. La batterie est plus molle que les autres instruments qui donnent heureusement un minimum de dynamisme. Le niveau technique est léger mais ça ne veut pas dire pour autant que ce n'est pas bien fait et agréable à l’oreille, car leur musique évolue et est assez changeante. Les riffs des guitares n'évoluent pas beaucoup et le chant est un peu trop linéaire. En fait, il me semble que ce qui fait tout le défaut de l'album c'est le fait d'avoir fait peu de morceaux, mais des morceaux longs, l'album aurait certainement gagné en efficacité si les morceaux avaient été plus courts et un peu plus diversifiés. Malgré une production un peu faiblarde, l’homogénéité des instruments reste cohérente.
Astrofaes régresse un poil avec cet album qui est moins bon que les précédents mais dans l’ensemble cela reste tout de même un album correct. Avis donc partagé, à suivre…
