Je vais peut-être vous paraître légèrement gonflé, mais si vous saviez comme il est difficile de trouver une introduction digne de ce nom pour une formation œuvrant dans un style où tout a déjà été vu, revu, rerevu et j'en passe... Pourquoi m'étalerais-je des heures à recoucher sur le papier les mêmes lignes et dicter une morale quasiment similaire, à savoir un manque d'originalité. Oui, pourquoi ? Eh bien parce qu'on l'aime bien, notre Deathcore ! Voilà pourquoi. Nos frenchies d'APRIL'S POSSESSIONS aussi, nous les adorons. C'est vrai, ils sont beaux, dynamiques, fougueux, la jeunesse quoi ! Tout comme leur premier EP nommé E[re]ducation, paru au printemps 2013. Etant anciennement une formation appelée LAST BREATH BEFORE THE END, ces gars nous font clairement comprendre que dans le milieu, ils s'y connaissent un minimum. Ca tombe bien, moi aussi !
Pour l'entrée en matière, deux choix s'imposent : Soit les gaillards font dans l'innovation, soit ils ne le font pas. On ne tardera pas à le savoir. "Our Last Spring" démarre tout en finesse, si je puis dire. C'est bourrin, c'est rentre-dedans, c'est APRIL'S POSSESSIONS. Les gaillards sont extrêmement hargneux, mais au moins, le style est connu et maîtrisé. Oh, je ne me faisais pas le moindre souci de ce côté-là. Quoi qu'il en soit, il est inutile de se mentir : cet EP n'est pas le disque de Deathcore de l'année. Triste révélation n'est-ce pas ? Est-ce que cela signifie qu'il est mauvais ? Que nenni mes amis ! Même si le vocaliste manque parfois de mordant, les instruments sont là pour le soutenir avec brio et assurer une robuste cohérence jusqu'à la dernière seconde. Avec en prime de ça de très brefs passages mélodiques à la CONDUCTING FROM THE GRAVE ("A Bullet To Save"), les Caennais nous montrent clairement qu'ils ont une certaine volonté d'offrir un son efficace et construit à l'auditeur. E[re]ducation est donc un EP qui s'avale d'une traite et sans modération. C'est une bonne dose de colère qui ne demande qu'à éclater sur scène, et j'espère sincèrement qu'elle y arrivera car comme beaucoup de formations, il y a ici matière à faire de grandes choses. Pour le reste, c'est APRIL'S POSSESSIONS qui est maître de son destin. Si leurs aspirations futures sont de nous pondre des "Dreamless... Fearless" de toute beauté, alors nous allons sûrement nous entendre. Avec un chant qui tire parfois un peu sur le Hardcore, ce morceau est pour moi à écouter en priorité, de par ses mélodies et sa violence qui ne se confond jamais avec la brutalité. Plus les minutes défilent, et plus je prends du plaisir à écouter et réécouter une galette qui ne cesse de me séduire. Je sais qu'il est bien facile de dire ça pour un style que j'ai toujours défendu, mais pour le coup, tout est de ma faute. Je suis parti la fleur au fusil et j'ai pris une bonne grosse baffe. Elle n'est peut-être pas intense, mais bon sang qu'elle fait mal.
Au moins, on peut dire qu'APRIL'S POSSESSIONS a bien soigné son arrivée. Si au tout début de l'EP, on ne peut s'empêcher d'esquisser un petit rictus de moquerie, on le perd très rapidement à la vue du professionnalisme dont font preuve les membres de cette formation. Maintenant, j'espère que nos Caennais tiendront le coup et ne vont pas se décourager comme beaucoup de jeunes groupes. Allez donc jusqu'au bout de vos convictions, et permettez-moi de citer WHEN REASONS COLLAPSE pour terminer : "La musique n'est pas une compétition, mais une histoire de belles rencontres". Ah ça, je n'aurais pas dit mieux.
