Mais qui est vraiment Anette Olzon ? Avant d'intégrer les rangs de NIGHTWISH, en lieu et place de la diva Tarja Turunen, disons-le franchement, personne ne savait vraiment qui était cette petite chanteuse suédoise. A peine entendait-on par ci par là qu'elle avait officié au sein d'ALYSON AVENUE, et encore une fois disons-le franchement aussi, personne ne connaissait ce combo avant d'apprendre que leur frontwoman était retenue par Holopainen & Co pour chanter sur Dark Passion Play (2007). Il ne fait aucun doute que la pression au moment de son intronisation a dû être assez forte. Dans son style, sans jamais chercher à copier Madame Turunen (les mauvaises langues diraient qu'elle n'en avait pas les capacités, de toutes façons), Anette est arrivée au sein de NIGHTWISH avec son univers, sa personnalité et une fraicheur naturelle dont devaient grandement avoir besoin ses nouveaux collègues à cet instant.
En toute objectivité, Anette, à la fois fragile et sincère dans son expression musicale, a permis à NIGHTWISH d'explorer de nouveaux horizons. Pas sûr que ce côté celtique et Folk sur Dark Passion Play et Imaginaerum aurait trouvé sa voie (sa voix) avec Tarja au micro. Alors rendons à Anette ce qui lui appartient. Et profitons de ce qu'elle a à nous offrir : Shine. Ce premier effort solo, dont l'écriture fut entamée lors de la tournée Dark Passion Play, ne doit surtout pas être considéré comme du "Anette sans NIGHTWISH", mais plutôt comme du "Anette après NIGHTWISH". L'artiste existait bien avant l'aventure finlandaise, elle existera après, s'étant nourrie de tout ce qu'elle a pu assimiler pendant presque 6 années.
Loin d'être esseulée dans son entreprise, Anette a fait appel à la crème des crèmes de la Pop suédoise, puisque Shine est produit par le guitariste/songwriter Stefan Örn, membre du groupe APOLLO DRIVE et surtout compositeur régulier pour les candidats de l'Eurovision, et par le multi-instrumentiste Johan Glössner. Même si ces noms-là ne nous évoquent rien, cette collaboration porte ses fruits. La miss Olzon semble vraiment à l'aise, dans son élément, libérée de toute pression.
A la base, ne venant pas des sphères Metal, Anette s'épanouit donc sur son terrain de prédilection. Les riffs et les orchestrations ténébreuses de NIGHTWISH sont loin, bien loin, même si Shine propose de savoureux passages électrifiés ("Lies", entre autres). Là où se situe la vraie puissance de ce premier album en solo, c'est dans la voix de sa génitrice : à plusieurs reprises Anette prouve qu'elle n'est pas la femme fluette que l'on prétend ("Falling", "Lies", "One Million Faces"). Oui elle a du coffre et en plus d'une sensibilité indéniable, elle sait transporter des morceaux dont la mélodie paraît, au premier abord, un peu légère : en vérité certaines trottent assez rapidement dans la tête. Encore une fois, le fameux "Lies" véhicule son lot d'émotions... Question puissance, on note aussi ces arrangements précieux, qui donnent de l'ampleur à la délicate "One Million Faces" (une belle ballade commencée au piano), au tubesque "Shine", et autre "Invincible" au solo planant et au final quasi-celtique. Votre serviteur maitrisant peu le répertoire d'ALYSON AVENUE, on en déduira qu'Anette s'inspire de ses souvenirs encore récents, lorsqu'elle emprunte aux dernières inspirations gaéliques de son ancien groupe (la ballade Folk "Moving Away", "Watching Me From Afar" avec ses percussions et ses chœurs enchanteurs).
Les fautes de goût se font rares, comme ce "Floating" et ses airs de mauvaise Pop japonaise (imaginez-vous en train de commander un T8 et un M13, c'est flagrant), et si l'on peut faire un seul reproche à "Falling", c'est sur ce refrain qui aurait mérité d'être à peine approfondi. Pour le reste, on remarquera que Shine est bourré de poésie, et dévoile le talent certain d'Anette Olzon pour écrire de bien belles chansons. A des milliers d'années lumières de la galaxie NIGHTWISH, certes, mais ceux qui l'ont apprécié durant l'interlude finlandais sauront lui donner sa chance avec cet opus.
