Autant le dire tout de suite : CRACK OV DAWN, c’est énorme ! Sans préliminaire, ce jeune groupe se jette à corps et à cri dans nos oreilles pour les laver de toutes les banalités qui les habitent. Un coup de pied dans la fourmilière, un camouflet aux convenances, un refus de la médiocrité, ce premier album est tout cela à la fois… et tellement plus.
Niveau influences, accrochez-vous : on y trouve le martèlement martial d’un RAMMSTEIN, l’imagination d’un KILLING JOKE, l’insolence d’un MARYLIN MANSON, ajoutez à cela des racines Punk et Glam Rock ! Le tout est savamment distillé afin que le plaisir soit total.
Cet ovni bénéficie en outre d’une production magistrale qui donne toute son ampleur aux 11 compositions-détonations.
Le problème avec cet album, c’est qu’après l’avoir écouté, on n’éprouve plus que du mépris pour le reste (ou presque) de la production nationale. La tentation de foutre en l’air la quasi totalité de ses cd n’est pas exclue après une telle expérience. Je vous aurais prévenu.
L’incendie démarre avec “Porn Junkie” et son riff qui surgit par intermittence. Au mélange des influences évoqué plus haut, il faut ajouter une agréable impression qui remonte à 1993, avec la sortie de Violent New Breed de SHOTGUN MESSIAH (les rares détenteur de cet album savent de quoi je parle). La pression monte encore d’un cran avec le remarquable “God Bless You” dont le refrain colle à la peau comme du napalm au petit matin. Puis on enchaîne avec le Pop (enfin, je me comprends !) “Rise’N Fall”. Les titres s’égrainent sans que la qualité baisse. La reprise de “Pride/In The Name Of Love” de U2 donne un petit coup de vieux à l’original ; seul le solo de The Edge y perd en émotion. L’album se termine avec “Miss Suicide”, un titre plus lent et plus long que les autres, mélange de puissance et de feeling, qui pourrait aisément figurer parmi les chefs d’œuvre du Métal gothique.
CRACK OV DAWN, s’est une ligne de coke avec une touche “repeat” !
