Sina, Nila et Clementine. Voilà les noms de nos bourreaux d'un jour. Pas de barbes, pas de testostérone, juste de la candeur. Il y a évidement la jurisprudence CRUCIFIED BARBARA, mais les hommes que nous sommes ont tous ce petit côté femdom au fond d'eux, celui qui rend la fessée encore plus humiliante quand elle est infligée par des mains féminines. Enfin de l'innocence ? Pas de chance, BOTTOM est la quintessence d'un Sludge / Doom extrêmement dérangeant, distillé à partir d'écorces d'ISIS, de CATHEDRAL, de NEUROSIS. Boueux, magmatique et tellement sexy, difficile d'éviter à you'rNext les allusions misogynes, les comparaisons sexistes, les commentaires machistes. Ceci étant, Metal-Impact n'ayant pas besoin de rentrer en conflit ouvert avec Isabelle Alonso, nous allons nous tenir à carreau. Alors allez y les putes, envoyez le son.
De décadence en expérimentations, cet album (le troisième pour nos Américaines) est d'un genre très particulier. Oui, il y a une toute petite notion de Sludge et de Doom qui vient recadrer les compositions quand ces dernières sombrent dans l'incontrôlable. Mais ces instants familiers sont rares. Evoluant constamment sur un faux-rythme, you'rNext est la matérialisation du chaos et de la déchéance sur fond d'asile psychiatrique. Il n'y a aucune écriture, aucune structuration, aucune cohérence. Dans une ambiance feutrée, l'album déroule à une vitesse sénatoriale. Quelques notes de basse, quelques distorsions, quelques patterns de batterie et l'hystérie vocale d'une Sina complètement possédée, dont les hurlements terrifiants font très "film d'exorcisme". Sauf qu'ici, pas de metteur en scène mais juste de la transcendance. C'est dérangeant, c'est mystique, c'est magique. you'rNext, dans son état de transe permanent, procure des émotions absolument insoupçonnables. Je n'avais personnellement jamais rien entendu de ce type avant et je dois avouer que le côté "autiste" de leur musique remue les tripes. On ne peut jamais prévoir à l'avance ce qui va surgir de l'ombre, et de ce jeu de sons, de textures, même de lumières, découle une œuvre captivante. Inutile de vous parler des morceaux car même s'ils sont explicitement nommés, ils n'existent pas. Rien de tout ça ne semble vraiment inscrit dans la réalité et on peut tout aussi bien s'imaginer vautré dans la quiétude d'un jardin zen que dans l'inconfort d'un huit-clos sanglant. Tout est une question de perceptions et c'est la raison pour laquelle j'ai inconsciemment laissé glisser mon esprit le long du courant qui entraine you'rNext vers des univers si variés.
Après relecture, je trouve que ce papier est l'une des chroniques les moins descriptives que j'ai pu réaliser jusqu'ici. Et paradoxalement, je me retrouve encore et encore dans ces quelques mots. Il n'y a pas plus versatile que BOTTOM. Vous pourrez écouter ce disque 100 fois, vous aurez 100 perceptions différentes. C'est un sentiment assez unique, une expérience à vivre mais pas nécessairement à renouveler. Sur ce, trêve d'analyses et de littérature, il est temps de vous laisser vous en faire votre propre idée.
Note de rédaction : cet album a été crédité d'un 5/10, non pas pour sa médiocrité mais pour symboliser les réactions extrêmes qu'il engendrera, lesquelles s'annuleront et aboutiront à une moyenne "neutre".
