Ok les mecs, je sais, c'est pas beau de se moquer. Mais si on pouvait deviner en musique et pas dès la lecture de votre "biographie" que vous avez encore du lait derrière les oreilles, ce serait pas du luxe. Alors pour épargner à d'autres une inflammation rétinienne, voici le topo : EXUTORIA est un trio français qui succède début 2010 à une précédente formation : INTERROGATION, montée en 2007 par deux frères passionnés de musique. Le style évolue alors vers un Rock / Metal alternatif chanté en français et dépourvu des éléments Pop qui régissaient l'identité musicale de leurs débuts. Leur premier EP éponyme sort le 3 décembre 2010 et le moins que l'on puisse dire, c'est que ça pique, ça chatouille, ça gratouille. #psoriasis
Voilà, il m'aura fallu tout au plus cinq minutes pour pondre ces quelques lignes qui, je le pense, renseignent assez bien quant à l'histoire anti-tumultueuse d'EXUTORIA. Le groupe m'a néanmoins facilité la tâche puisque son parcours est absent de tout détail croustillant, de toute anecdote intéressante. Reste à évoquer cet EP qui, après mes yeux, allait s'attaquer à mes oreilles. J'espérais que "Trash Dans Ta Face" ne soit qu'une faute de frappe mais je sais désormais le mal beaucoup plus profond. On s'arrêtera là pour les railleries, car la surprise est d'autant plus contrastée que nos attentes étaient désespérément faibles. Etonnamment, le trio développe son Rock / Metal alternatif avec tant de fluidité que de bonne humeur. Je ne suis pas fan du côté "on arrive, on va tout péter" de "Trash Dans Ta Face" mais j'apprécie sa puissance, sa détermination et ce riff énorme à 2'13. EXUTORIA me surprend et m'adresse la plus belle forme de réponse qui soit : sa musique généreuse et travaillée. Certes, il y a énormément d'approximations techniques, de couilles dans une production saturée, mais de cette purée d'idées émerge une destination précise, un plan d'attaque clair et instinctif. Le tempo pantouflard de "L'Impasse" nuance la fougue très Rock N' Roll de "Destroy" et l'EP gagne alors en nuances, en clairs-obscurs. Oui, ce Metal aux contours floutés démange, principalement au niveau de la nuque et des pieds. Du groove de "Prématurée" qui évoque presque le RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE de "Killing In The Name" à la cohérence de l'instrumentale "Orient", tout est relativement bon et gourmand, sans tomber dans l'outrance ni dans l'excellence. Même le chant nasillard de Krodt (Krodt de nez pour le coup) apporte un pêché capital à la personnalité d'EXUTORIA, qui manque d'expérience mais pas de caractère.
J'aurai apprécié, maintenant que cet EP a un certain âge, pouvoir vous parler d'EXUTORIA comme d'un groupe devenu professionnel, mature, surbooké. Sauf que depuis ces six bonnes dispositions, nous n'avons aucune certitude que ces Bourguignons réinvestiront un jour les studios pour le premier album qui devrait déclencher leur carrière. Pour le moment, on doit se contenter de quelques promesses et de beaucoup de fautes d'orthographe. Pas assez pour combler notre infinie satiété.
