Que peut-on encore retenir du split entre BRUME RETINA et HIRO près de sept ans après sa sortie ? Que le site officiel renseigné par HIRO est désormais la page d'un restaurant thaïlandais basé à Saint-Maur-des-Fossés ? Que celui indiqué par BRUME RETINA renvoie à une très belle "Page Not Found" ? C'est ridicule, mais en fait oui, c'est bien la seule chose à comprendre de cette collaboration (in)fructueuse. Parisiens ou Bisontins, même combat. Ni BRUME RETINA, ni HIRO n'ont fait date au cœur de cette scène Hardcore / Screamo tricolore, que plus ou moins seuls les messins de TESS sont parvenus à dompter. Alors dans l'hypothèse où vous avez un coup de cœur très tardif pour ce split, n'ayez aucun espoir d'approfondir votre découverte. Tel un trou noir, tout s'est arrêté, et voici le dernier stigmate en date.
BRUME RETINA :
Composé de trois anciens membres de GAMENESS et du batteur de LAB°, BRUME RETINA officie sans vraie surprise dans un Post-Hardcore / Screamo toujours d'actualité, et on se dit même que le chaos propagé par un tel groupe il y a sept ans avait quelque chose d'intelligent, car c'est désormais monnaie courante que d'emprunter au Punk, au Hardcore, à l'Emo, au Crust et d'en faire une soupe de sentiments. Tantôt énervée, tantôt apaisée, la partie consacrée aux Parisiens (4 morceaux pour 9 minutes) brille de son imprévisibilité. Un spleen manifeste se dégage d'"Avale" avant que le ton ne durcisse sur "Recrache". Les voix sont étouffées, les guitares aiguisées. Tout s'affole puis tout retombe sur un simple pattern de batterie. Ok, c'est donc un ascenseur émotionnel. D'une drôle de quiétude jaillit soudain une frénésie apocalyptico-Grind, qui est le cœur de "La Raison A Cédé". Le titre est bien trouvé, l'engagement y est mais la précision laisse à désirer. Un peu fourre-tout, un peu barrée, la musique de BRUME RETINA peine à trouver une improbable cohésion, ce que font sans sourciller les meilleures formations du genre... Autant dire que ceux-là n'en ont pas fait partie. (5/10)
HIRO :
La voie était royale pour HIRO, qui n'avait besoin que d'un peu plus de justesse et de clairvoyance pour écraser en toute amitié leurs amis Franciliens. De déculottée il n'y a point eu, et c'est aller à l'encontre de la démarche artistique d'un split que de vouloir opposer ses participants. Mais quand même, en seulement 2 titres (pour 10 minutes), les Bisontins ont fait preuve d'une volonté d'en découdre autrement plus intense. Tout le mérite revient à "Lis", puisque "La Manipulation Des Corps" va se révéler franchement fantomatique. Le gros morceau de ce split a donc été pondu par HIRO. Après un sample "sur le divan", le groupe, composé d'anciens de la maison GANTZ dévoile son Post-Hardcore chaotique et décadent, emmené à 2'40 par une guitare qui fait véritablement décoller l'affaire. A partir de ce moment, tout va crescendo. Les riffs se font hachés, l'ambiance affreusement noire, au point d'y remarquer vers la cinquième minute un ascendant pratiquement Post-Black. Multiples atmosphères, progression intéressante, ce titre survole l'opus de sa hargne gagnante, et fait de HIRO non pas la bonne découverte mais simplement celui des deux qui fera oublier la déconfiture de l'autre. Pas de révélation donc au sein d'un disque collaboratif qui sonne davantage comme un désir commun entre deux groupes complices que comme un véritable échange de compétences. Aux fans de Post-Hardcore criard et de chauds-froids musicaux élaborés (attention aux refroidissements), vous pourrez toujours y consacrer la grosse vingtaine de minutes que cet album demande. Aux autres, le sentiment d'avoir manqué quelque chose de fort n'hantera pas le peu de culpabilité qui vous reste.
