Peut-on sonner comme un redneck sans être né à Topeka ou Oklaoma City ? C'est manifestement le défi que se sont lancés les quatre parisiens de THE TEXAS CHAINSAW DUST LOVERS (TCDL) pour leur deuxième EP, The Wolf Is Rising.
Le groupe fondé en 2011 réunit actuellement Clément Collot (Vocals & Rythm Guitar), Nagui Mehany (Lead Guitar), Etienne Collot (Bass) et Christophe Hogommat (Drums).
"On essaye d'affiner et de personnaliser notre son qui était un peu brut sur le précédent EP. De faire un son plus lourd mais en même temps plus subtil"
Le socle musical de TCDL, c'est un Stoner franc et viril: bons gros riffs trapus, basse vrombissante, batterie tonique et distorsion bien placée. La voix grave caractéristique de Clément Collot est une carte maîtresse du son du groupe. Elle enrobe leur son Southerm Rock d'une touche chaude et vibrante.
Pour donner corps à leur son à la fois "western spaguetti" et "pequenot", le quatuor multiplie les accessoires exotiques: un riff de banjo par-ci, un coup de guiro par là, une intro à la guimbarde, un fonds de slide guitar, un sifflotement en arrière plan... l'ombre de Sergio Leone plane sur la production !
C'est bien foutu, bien produit, bien équilibré. Les parisiens installent une ambiance indéniablement western qui donne à leur musique cette touche Stoner Spaguetti.
Se jouant des étiquettes, The Wolf Is Rising aborde plusieurs styles musicaux qui fleurent bon le saloon : Folk dans "A Man Of Constant Sorrow", Country avec "Redemption" et "Back to Georgia", Stoner Southie à la sauce CLUTCH pour "Car Crash" et "The Wolf is Rising".
Cet EP dégage de bonnes vibrations. C'est un skeud plutôt joyeux et optimiste, porteur d'un entrain communicatif. On a hâte de voir ce que donneront en live des machines à headbang come "Car Crash", "The Wolf Is Rising" ou "Back to Georgia".
Un groupe à suivre en tout cas. Parce que du bon Stoner couillu comme çà, de Paris ou d'ailleurs, çà fait du bien entre les oreilles. On peut effectivement sonner redneck à Eglise de Pantin !
