KLONE (FRA) - Here Come The Sun (2015)

Eh toi ! Oui, toi le metalleux qui râle tout le temps sur ce groupe qui n'en finit pas de ressortir le même album, qui n'est qu'une déclinaison de son disque d'or 1995 ! C'est aussi toi qui te plains quand cet autre groupe ose sortir du sillon qu'il a tracé pendant des années avec un effort qui explore d'autres univers !
Elles sont pourtant nombreuses les formations à avoir tenté une évolution stylistique plus ou moins totale. Parce qu'elles en avaient marre de jouer tout le temps la même chose, qu'elles avaient fait le tour de leur style. Mais aussi parce qu'en dix, vingt ou trente ans on change, nos goûts évoluent, nos envies aussi. Et tu admettras, qu'il vaut mieux que nos groupes préférés évoluent et continuent à nous faire plaisir, plutôt que de spliter pour aller ouvrir un gîte rural ou une pizzeria !
L'évolution, c'est la voie de KLONE. Depuis douze ans, les poitevins ont pris un malin plaisir à nous surprendre. Le gang nous a habitués à ne pas prendre d'habitudes avec sa musique. A ne pas accueillir chacun de ses nouveaux disque avec des certitudes. A ne pas être brossés dans le sens du poil. Here Come The Sun, leur dernier méfait, va encore plus loin. Le gang abandonne le Metal au profit d'autres contrées musicales. Et si elle attirera probablement un public nouveau, cette invitation au voyage pourrait laisser certains fans sur le bord de la route.
Exit les grosses guitares, le screaming et la saturation. Place à une musique épurée, atmosphérique. Une production qui met en avant les qualités intrinsèques de chaque musicien à partir de compos hyper écrites, complexes et qui pourtant paraissent simple, tant elles sont limpides. "Immersion", le morceau d'ouverture, est époustouflant de justesse. L'instrumentation est pure, un peu de reverb sur la voix lui ajoute de la profondeur. Une guitare cristalline, une rythmique subtile et un chant très inspiré portent la mélodie pendant les premiers couplets. Et quand la voix se tait, elle laisse le saxophone de Maxime Metzger s'inviter sur un instrumental aérien. C'est une très belle entrée en matière.
Vent debout, le groupe garde le cap et ne réduit pas la voilure sur tout l'album. C'est un voyage accompagné, atmosphérique, avec des accélérations et des durcissements de ton. Ecouter Here Come The Sun, c'est comme rouler en Ferrari sur la Nationale 7. Même si on respecte la limitation de vitesse, on sent la puissance grondante du moteur qu'on fait rugir de temps en temps pour rappeler que c'est pas la berline de base et qu'elle peut envoyer du bois pour peu qu'on lui donne une belle ligne droite sans radar. Ainsi sur "Fog", le démarrage tout en douceur et en sons feutrés débouche sur un instrumental un peu plus costaud. Idem sur "The Last Experience" où l'outro explose en son crade et hyper saturé, un dernier sursaut de son brutal, le chant du cygne, l'hallali... Ces morceaux qui soufflent le chaud et le froid sont les plus marquants.
Mais KLONE n'applique pas cette recette à toutes ses chansons, et une bonne moitié de la tracklist sonne plutôt Pop Rock. Ainsi "Gone up in Flames" et "The Drifter" rappellent énormément la période "Englishman in New York" de STING. Mais même dans ce registre, Here Come The Sun réserve des instants de grâce, comme cette cover de "Summertimes" qui arracherait une larme au plus endurci des bikers.
Cette évolution laissera peut-être du monde sur le bas côté, mais il serait cependant dommage de renoncer à écouter KLONE seulement parce qu'ils ne font plus de Metal sur cet opus. Ne serait-ce que pour un petit tour de manège, le voyage vaut le prix du billet.
