Grandeur et décadence. Après avoir été l’un des groupes majeurs des années 80, et avoir étendu son influence sur une grande partie des groupes des années 90, VAN HALEN n’est plus que l’ombre de lui-même. Ce Best Of Both World arrive de nulle part, sans doute pour entretenir le train de vie des frères Van Halen, 9 ans après un Best Of volume 1 dont on croyait, à l’époque, qu’il annonçait le retour de “Diamond Dave” Lee Roth ! Aujourd’hui, on souhaiterait que le groupe sorte une nouvelle production studio. En vain. Tout ce que l’on a pour satisfaire notre appétit, ce sont 3 inédits peu reluisants qui en disent long sur l’état de santé du groupe.
Pour le reste, cette compile ne peut qu’être encensée car elle contient la plupart des meilleurs titres de ce groupe légendaire. Elle permet de toucher du doigt le génie d’Eddie en se plongeant dans tous ces hits atomiques et autres hymnes du Hard Rock.
On ne s’étonnera pas que le groupe n’ait pas souhaité voir figurer de morceau issu de la brève et peu convaincante collaboration avec Gary Cherone (ex-EXTREME).
