La front cover de l’album me fait automatiquement penser à une horde de soldats envoyée du futur pour nous annoncer la fin des temps. Sympathique ces End Of Days! Encore un message encourageant ! Mais revenons sur ce qui nous intéresse, à savoir la couleur musicale de ce premier opus !
Dernier étalon en date provenant de l’écurie Alveran Records spécialisée dans le Deathcore, Emocore et consorts, End Of Days nous avait pourvu un MCD paru en 2003 « Hate Anthems », déjà loué par la critique spécialisée. Fort d’un nouveau contrat au sein du temple du Deathcore d’outre-Rhin, EOD propose une fusion calibrée de Death puissant et de Hardcore âpre, le tout supporté par une extraordinaire voix (j’ose le dire!), une sorte de subtil mélange entre Mr Roger Miret des dieux du Hardcore New-Yorkais Agnostic Front et Mr John Tardy d’Obituary.
Autant dire que quand il ouvre son gosier, c’est pour mieux dévorer sec sur son passage !
Car si les compositions et le niveau technique des musiciens ne peuvent pas être l’objet de reproches particuliers, la production de Jacob Bredahl (Hatesphere) n’en demeurant pas moins efficace, les parties vocales apparaissent comme étant l’élément original du groupe.
Les 9 morceaux, si on enlève l’intro, sont plutôt agréables à entendre mais un peu trop long surtout pour ce format musical ! C’est un style où il est meilleur d’avoir une durée plus courte afin de gagner en intensité et en force de frappe.
La majorité des plages tournant autour de 3’30 en moyenne, le déluge de breaks et de cassures de rythmes annihile un peu la fougue du Deathcore, qui rappelons-le, est l’évolution d’un Hardcore toujours plus brutal et mordant. Toutefois, on ne pourra pas les condamner de ne pas essayer d’apporter leur pierre à l’édifice.
Mais mis à part ces petits détails techniques de chipoteurs, il est fort à parier que ce groupe ait un avenir et qu’il constituera un des futurs piliers du label allemand et du renouveau de l’environnement Deathcore.
