Les fans de SYMPHONY X qui se jetteraient sans réfléchir sur cet album risqueraient d’être déçus ou, tout au moins, surpris. Car le chanteur sort complètement de son registre musical pour nous livrer un album de Hard Rock pur souche.
Se souvenant que le Hard Rock prend sa source dans le Rock mais aussi dans le Blues, Russell Allen tient compte de ses différentes tendances et les insère avec talent dans ses compositions. Cet album est donc une plongée dans l’histoire du Metal, avec des riffs et des solos souvent simples, des rythmiques basiques ; n’aller donc pas chercher des innovations marquantes ni des guitares avec beaucoup d’effets. Mais il n’y a rien de péjoratif dans ce commentaire, car Russell Allen ne sombre jamais dans le cliché facile ni la redite inutile et la qualité est omniprésente. Il s’inspire des grands, parmi lesquels RAINBOW. Toutefois il serait sévère de résumer cet album à un simple hommage au passé tant notre homme sait diversifier ses influences et donne à son album des colorations différentes.
La production joue, elle aussi, le jeu du retour aux sources en donnant un son cru résolument old school.
